Remarks
Positive: The campus if one of the beautiful in India as the college is in a fabulous location. The weather here is good and all the places that people want to visit are nearby like Mussoorie, Haridwar, Rishikesh, etc. So the students can just pick a bike and just decide to go to these places like one night they are in Dehradun and other in Mussoorie. Negative: There is not enough accommodation for all the students in the campus hostel itself. The students have to find their hostel on their own if they are not able to enroll themselves in the limited seats available in the university campus.
Course Curriculum Overview
The educational program at UPES is substantially more industry arranged. Being a fourth-year understudy at UPES from the CSE branch I don't have a lot of thought regarding different courses. I'm very happy with the CSE educational plan. In contrast to some other schools in India, we (CSE understudies) at UPES don't need to clean metal pieces in the workshop. One of my companions in top NIT grumbles me of going to the workshop lab which is of no utilization to a CS engineer. Or maybe we need to get the hang of Programming and Data Structures in the principal semester itself. Additionally, we approach different computerized study material in an online library. Going to the positions each year new organizations are arriving on grounds for enrollment may it be Microsoft, Wipro, and so forth. In the event that you are resolved to buckle down, UPES gives the correct stage to give you an effective profession. The exam structure at UPES is common and followed at most universities. There are mid and end semesters exams and there are continuous assignments that are either submitted online or offline to the faculty and the weight they carry are Assignments and Internals:20%, Mid-sems:30% and End-Sems: 50%. The passing criteria is that a student is allowed maximum of two backlogs in a semester otherwise the student is considered fail for the semester, but two make up for that the student is given a chance to clear the backlogs via re-appearing for the exam.
Placement Experience
Placements are good for a few, not for all. Few means 5–6 from a class will get a placement with a great package while others will get substandard ones (and they are supposed to feel happy that they got a placement, at least) even after paying this huge college fee, meaning the college cannot call many good companies (class toppers of my class, three of them, have substandard placement). So, the average package becomes good and that is what the University is feeding upon. Placement is 100% BUT by debarring some students from placement because of some utterly vague, illogical reason. Few of my friends were debarred just because they did not attend one company (which is allowed by 2 negative signups and not all of those who did not attend were debarred, only those with lesser grades than others. They were told that they did not inform about missing the company while none of all those who did not attend, gave such information. Also, this was due to winter vacation in which students were at their homes or maybe out of the country, who knows. But such is what you face. Yes, our college does provide internship opportunities. My overall experience was good and I did internship for Infosys it was a WFH(work from home) internship in which we had to develop some modules of an ERP system that were to certain operations involving processing the data provided by the college. There was no stipend for the internship that I did.
College Events
There are mainly two events that are celebrated at a large scale : 1. IGNITE which is a technical fest and there are many exhibitions where student present their projects and showcase their skills. There are many events held for students like gaming events, treasure hunts, etc. 2. UURJA: This is the cultural fest which takes place for two days. In this fest also there are many events held on the first day and people participate to win prizes and goodies from the college and on second day there is DJ night where all the students gather to enjoy the night. There are various food stalls also where students can buy food as they enjoy their evening. and there are small events like hackathons that take place all over the year at different times conducted by different student chapters or societies.
Fee Structure And Facilities
They charge an exceptionally high expense (educational cost, extracurricular, profession administrations, and so forth.) What isn't great: labs(have instruments yet you can't state if your lab instructor would realize how to assist you with every one of them), inquire about offices, lab aides and lab educators (know just what they need to instruct, on the off chance that you ask them additional stuff they will disclose to you that isn't for you), encountered and gifted staff to coach (again, not each of them, a couple are great yet that is just A FEW), Tech and Cultural fest are not up to the level as of other universities, foundation, clinic, mental assistance, cafeteria.
Fees and Financial Aid
University offers both scholarship and loan programs under which various students register every year. Scholarship: in this program the student scoring a total percentage of 95 or above in PCM(Physics, Chemistry, Maths) in 12th class is granted the scholarship in first year itself and for subsequent years they are to get a SGPA of 9 or above to be eligible for further scholarships. Loans: the University itself doesn't provide the loan facility, at least not that I know of but there are various banks that provide the parents with the loan facility in which they can take a loan from the bank and the student upon getting a placement would pay it back in the form if installments.
Campus Life
Extracurricular activities are held continuously by various chapters or societies that are part of the university and also they reward the student on the basis of their performance in the events. Labs are not so good as the equipments in computer labs are not so advanced to run heavy softwares that are needed for today's technology. Particularly cloud technologies. We are given the theoretical knowledge about the subject but the practical implementation is lacking as there are not trained enough teachers for cloud and also due to the shortcomings of machine performance. Sports: There are many sports events taking place in our university like cricket, basketball, volleyball, football. The students also actively participate in respective sports they love also there is outside exposure for the students like last year one of my friend went to a national level TT(Table Tennis) competition though I don't know if he won it but seeing it there is a chance for students to shine on the sports part also apart form academics.
Alumni/Alumna
The alumni are very helpful as they do not hesitate at all to help their juniors, because most of them are working in the industry and and know about the work culture and how to handle corporate life well (we all know experience counts). So the juniors can ask any time for help or to guide them towards a path or to tell them options available, the path they can build their careers in.
Admission
There are two ways to get admission in UPES: 1. To appear for the entrance exam(UPESAT) that is held in various states in India and the result is announced collectively at the end of the process the student's shortlisted form this round are called for the counseling that takes place in Delhi, all the formalities regarding paperwork and fees are discussed then and their only and the student is asked to select the branch and specialization they want to opt. The admission letter is handed over to the student. 2. There is another way to get admission that is through the JEE-Mains. The JEE-Mains test held to get admission in NIT's is also considered as valid to get admission in UPES as they set their own cutoff for the respective branches and the students applying through this method need to report at Dehradun in the campus itself as all the further processes take place in the university itself. The ratio of seats for UPESAT to JEE-Mains is 7 to 3 respectively so there are limited seats for the students applying through the 2nd method.
Faculty
The upper level individuals are exceptionally experienced and great, however that closures at CEO, Chancellor and Vice Chancellor level of school. After that level, most (not all, obviously) are educators or associate educators who don't have a clue what they are instructing. Some are offered subjects to train that they don't have any mastery on. Not just that, they complete out of line assessment in the event that you are not in their good books. Not being in good books doesn't mean you battled with them, it just means you never communicated with them independently, sat in their lodges and buttered them. In my 4 years at school, I have been assessed unreasonably (to such a degree, that my venture accomplice who didn't have a clue about the undertaking title till the introduction day and I let him know everything while in transit to school (additionally I made report, got it printed, introduction and clearly the whole task take a shot at my own) showed signs of improvement evaluation) and a few educators who bolstered my work and appreciated it to the following level (the whole dept. thought about my Major task, HOD even took a duplicate of my report and my coach was glad to such an extent that he called my work truly outstanding during all his time) wouldn't help me in any capacity (yet continued saying I was great and did incredible work however should I make pickle of that?) when I got a less evaluation since they love their activity so much yet have quit being great individuals. I needed to go to higher specialists however as I went to HOD level, I understood every one of them are as one and none of them will support me. Additionally I was told all over that nothing will occur, whoever I converse with.
