Remarks

Fergusson College has a special place not only my life but I’m surely every Fergussonians life. There’s nothing about it that is bad.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

One thing that still makes me a proud Fergussonian is their curriculum. Not only are they classes driven but their main emphasis is on practicals, which I feel are very important for any science student. Being in Biology, I had the most amazing professors and the way they conducted everything is just commendable. The name of Fergusson and the way they trained us got me a seat in Pune university. The way they inculcated the love and passion of Zoology is the biggest reason why I’m working as a research associate in a conservation field. Other than academics other extra curricular activities are major part of life in Fergusson. One can’t be a Fergussonian without having enjoyed the fest in December.

Placement Experience

4

Zoology department as such doesn’t give any placements.l, but other departments of Fergusson do. Although not good at on campus placements, privilege of carrying the name of Fergusson is enough for us to get jobs. They train us in such a way that we become self sufficient and confident. We are not only trained at academics but overall development that this institution brings out in every student is something any employer looks for.

College Events

5

The major fest celebrated in Fergusson is in December and it’s something Fergusson is known for. It’s a long affair. The actual fest goes on for approximately eight days but preparations start at least a month before. These eight days start with inauguration which is done in a very unique way. All the departments come out on the campus in their department T-shirt and go for a rally chanting their slogans. After the first day then there a traditional day and tie and saree day. Next two days are departmental fest where each department showcases their qualities and uniqueness but display models and projects and quizzes and what not. Then there’s a cultural day with singing and dancing competitions followed by Sthapana din which marks the end of the fest.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fess structure is extremely affordable especially for science student. For BSc they have only thouree thousand rupees fees. Apart from having cost effective and quality education they also give financial aid to students in need. There are various scholarships available too.

Fees and Financial Aid

Yes. College offers number of scholarships of different criteria, which are frequently put up on the notice board and website with detailed eligibility and procedures. Usually all the scholarships have a minimum percentage differing according to the reservation category.

Campus Life

5

On campus life on Fergusson is something I will always remember. I had the best time of my life. With people from all the races and groups Fergusson is one diverse campus. With strict policies against ragging and sexual harassment it gives one of the safest environment for students to grow. Education in Fergusson is not restricted to academics, it opens people’ minds and make them adaptable to all the kinds of people. Debate teams, basketball and cricket teams of Fergusson are known for their excellence in the resource areas. Staff at Fergusson is always looking for making their student at home.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

Because I’m a localite I didn’t go for the hostel. But hostels are pretty cheap too with total security. Boys and girls hostels are separate with a little more strict rules to the girls hostel. Hostel fees are pretty affordable and they also come with financial aids. Hostel also has mess facility for students with pretty good food services. As I haven’t actually stayed in the hostel all won’t be able to mention the exact fess structure but I’m pretty sure it’s not more than 25-30 thousand per annum.

Alumni/Alumna

Fergusson’s alumnus is well know. With students all over the world in almost all the fields, it become extremely easy for the student to get appropriate guidance. College keeps organizing alumni meetings which further helps people to expand their networks.

Admission

Fergusson College always has its name. Getting into Fergusson and being a Fergussonian was considered difficult but prestigious at the same time. I always wanted to do Science and what better college than Fergusson. After 12th I filled up the form for BSc, hoping to get into and eventually I did get thourough in about third merit list.

Faculty

5

Professors in Zoology department are amazing. With most them having M.Phil and Ph.Ds, the department is full of good curriculum. One thing that I will always appreciate them for is how they conducted our practicals. Their hands on practical sessions always kept me ahead of others during my post graduation. Not only curriculum but professors are keen about arranging various workshops and talks also. In short I owe it to this faculty for being where I am today.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose Biotechnology because it is a multidisciplinary field. We get to study not only topics related to biotechnology but also biochemistry, bio physics, bio informatics, bio statistics, etc. Mostly everything that is essential for future exams is taught during the span of 3 years. The topics of the units are taught in depth but the questions asked during exams are comparatively easy as to what all we studied. The frequency of the exam is, 1 internal exam which consists of both mcqs and written exam, the semester exam for each semester and practical exams for each subject. If u have studied then you will be able to attempt the questions.

Placement Experience:

My college gives campus placement placement opportunities typically after 4th semester, which is the 2nd half of the 2nd year. As my college has a partnership with IBM so the standards of campus placement go right up as the placement depends on the curriculum performance of the student so can't really say much for this. If saying as a stalemate, getting a placement is basically confirmed if the student maintains his/her CGPA of 6-7, which shows the consistent of the student in their field.
