Remarks
The college administration is not the most efficient to be very honest. It is slow, though the teachers are rather helpful in helping one cope with the admin.
Entrance Preview
I had to take the CATE exam which was a mandatory test for eligibility for English Hons in Delhi University (in 2011). My result was a composite score (of CATE marks and class XII percentage) of 72, which put me through to LSR in the first cut off itself. I chose not to consider any other college for Lady Shri Ram College happens to be amongst the top colleges for Humanities' courses across the country.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course content was comprehensive and suitably challenging. One had several optionals and specializations to choose from the 3rd semester onwards.
Internships Opportunities
The college internship experience is entirely individual-specific. Depending upon how enterprising one is and how hard they are willing to work, one could earn anywhere between a few hundreds and a few thousands over the course of a month.
Placement Experience
Many people perusing their graduation in English did not sit for placements for they intended to study further. Those who did sit for placements did well in interviews with start-ups such as Zomato, etc. Teach for India and other NGOs also show a preference for English graduates. The pay offered would range between Rs. 20,000-30,000 per month.
College Events
Many department-specific events took place during my stint at LSR including talks, literary festivals and guest lectures. At the college level, the Diwali mela and Annual Fest were the most awaited events of the year.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee was not too much. We paid an annual sum ranging from Rs.8,000 - Rs. 14,000, depending on which category of students we belonged to.I do not remember paying more than Rs. 11,000, being a General Category student as I was.
Fees and Financial Aid
There are certain scholarships offered by the college but one has to be very diligent in keeping track of the availability and application for these. Only those who are academically brilliant and willing to pursue their case with much commitment are likely to receive a scholarship.
Campus Life
The campus experience at LSR is wonderful. From the college cafe and sprawling gardens to the well-maintained student resources, everything was very comforting. There are many extracurriculars to choose from for those who are interested, though simply studying there and enjoying with friends is a great experience unto intself.
Hostel Facilities
I wasn't living in the hostel but from what I heard, the living conditions and food were pretty decent. Since getting the hostel is not particularly easy, many students live in PGs close to college. There are many options in Greater Kailash I as well as Lajpat Nagar and Amar Colony. The quality and services differ from PG to PG.
Alumni/Alumna
The Alumna network is not very strong and generally kept alive through social media. Since I have never been very invested in it, I have no experience to speak of really.
Exam Structure
LSR follows the ordinary DU-ordained exam pattern whereby examinations are conducted at the end of every semester. Other than the university-evaluated exams, one had to submit assignments and take tests through the course of the semester for internal evaluation.
Faculty
The English Department at LSR was simply brilliant. We had very experienced and accomplished professors teaching us difficult subjects, such that they eventually seemed easy. Never could have imagined a better set of teachers.
