Remarks
Absolutely horrible faculty and staff at the institute.
Course Curriculum Overview
Course curriculum for the chemical engineering majors is largely industry driven but has sufficient research components. Lectures are combined with a good number of lab Courses that allow one to apply the theoretical knowledge gained. Courses like heat transfer and thermodynamics were very useful.
Placement Experience
Non coding based placement is abysmal to say the least. In our department, their were about 10 percentage students that got placed in core.
College Events
1. Alcheringa is the annual cultural festival which is a major event in the college calendar. It's easily the largest College event in north east india. 2. Techniche is the annual techno-management festival and is also reasonably popular. 3. Every department also has its own events in addition.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Feasibile when I studied there, although fee hikes have been made the fees higher after I left. There have been numerous student protests as well about this. However since these decisions are taken on a pan IIT level there isn't much effect of such protests.
Fees and Financial Aid
I had secured the National Talent scholarship and did not avail any loans for the education at IIT Guwahati.
Campus Life
The campus is beautiful and has several picturesque lakes and hills. The facilities in the campus are good too. However, several if not most of the faculty and staff try to make students miserable on a daily basis. Several professors are sadistic and that is really difficult to handle.
Hostel Facilities
Yes I was a boarder of kameng hostel. It's one of the largest and oldest in the campus with a rich history and tradition. There were 12 boys' hostels and 2 girls' hostels during my time at the college. There was also a married scholars' residence.
Alumni/Alumna
The network is growing as the alumni base grows. The extent of its usefulness is subjective in general but folks are usually pretty helpful.
Admission
The college accepts IIT JEE advanced scores just like all other IITs. The exam is pretty competitive and requires extensive preparation. I secured a mediocre rank and opted for chemical engineering as my major. It's a pretty good department as far as academics are concerned, however job prospects.
Faculty
Faculty are well qualified at least on paper. However in reality, very few of them put in sincere efforts towards taking courses and delivering lectures. Most students are sadly disappointed by the quality of teaching at an IIT due to a combination of high expectations and low quality.
