Remarks

It's one of the best run institutions in the University.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

The course structure was not the most comprehensive as it very conveniently leaves out entire continents for a discipline like History. However, there were some trips, local monument visits, interesteing lectures by eminent historians, and paper presentations that helped us deal with the practical aspect of the subject. The students do have a chance to appear for various interviews through the placement cell.

Placement Experience

5

The dedicated placement cell managed all aspects of placements ranging from prepping the students, to inviting companies, to facilitating tests and interviews. I believe most students who applied through the placement cell, at least got an internship, and some got placed in reputed companies like Google, KPMG, McKinsey, Bloomberg, and various other companies, NGOs and banks.

College Events

5

Tarang is the annual college fest and sees one of the highest footfalls in the University. The entry is through a guest pass system to check unruly crowd. The event has various inter college competitions and a star night and a musical night. Besides Diwali mela organized by NSS, sports day organized by NSO, and departmental fests are the major highlights. The proceeds of the Diwali mela are given in charity. The sports day sees participation in various events ranging from basketball to shooting to chess. Another highlight is the annual farewell which is usually organized in a pub/club.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is transparent and affordable by most middle income group families. There are some freeships and fee waiver as well as other forms of assistance on offer for disadvantaged students. The fees is paid online now. The fee - breakdown is given and one also gets a receipt for the same. For humanities, the fees is upwards of 24,000 per annum. At time a separate examination fee is taken mid term.

Fees and Financial Aid

Scholarship was usually in the form of fee waiver or a part of it. Income of parents was the most important deciding criteria besides merit, attendance, extra - curricular activities, disability, etc.

Campus Life

5

This is a girls only college. Though some certificate courses are open to men as well. The college has a society for almost any interest, be it fine arts, Hindi and English debating and creative writing, Western and Indian dance and music, dramatics, etc. It is mandatory to contribute a fixed number of hours for NCC, NSS, or NSO depending on one's interest. There are students from all ethnicities, religions and with different sexual orientation. Everyone in general is sensitive towards these issues and these are non-issues on the whole.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

The hostel seats are few and the admission does have some hassles with mandatory showing up of local guardians, arbitrary assignment of seats especially for those who apply in the second year. The paying guest accommodations are pretty expensive in the area with the average being 15,000 per month with food on sharing basis.

Alumni/Alumna

The alumni association is very helpful with networking, socializing and assistance in general. Many alumni prefer hiring from amongst us in their own companies or refer juniors to their organization. The overseas alumni network often comes in handy if planning to study abroad or if attending a conference/seminar/workshop.

Admission

I opted for History as my first preference for graduation and Lady Shri Ram College was the first choice because of its all India ranking at the time. The admission process was very smooth with volunteers, teachers and support staff helping in every possible way. Everything is to be done by the student herself and parents can sit comfortably in the auditorium while the formalities are systematically done.

Faculty

4.5

We had a wonderful set of teachers. About one-third the staff was appointed on contract and this did create some problems. Most teachers had at least an M.Phil degree, while some had doctorate degrees as well. There were 10 teachers in total, all above 35 years of age. They each had a specific specialization in ancient, Medieval, or modern history.

The course curriculum is a bit too theoretical and less practical. The exams in the college takes places every month which are seasonals and are for internal marking and then we have semester exams in every 6 months which accounts for the external marking.

Placement Experience:

Placements are available in college, the drive is quite extensive, everyone is made aware of the choices and options and counselling is present too. It is from the third year, students are eligible to apply for placements. Companies and organisations take part such as Niti ayog, Times, Geostrata, Prajatantra foundation, etc. Those who desire usually work on their CVs, keep on doi internships and then get a placement. The packages are not that impressive to be honest.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course is really very interesting. It keeps up with our expectations. Involves both practical and theoretical aspects to make sure that we are able to face the real world. Also, with the help of the guidance that we get from teachers we're able to ace both the aspects. The examinations also are based on applications, thus, helping us to enhance ourselves in all possibilities.

I got a seat in Ramjas College. It is a north-campus college. The infrastructure is too good compared to the remaining colleges. The teaching also going well but I faced some language problems. I'm from south India so I don't understand Hindi properly. But here mostly they teach in Hindi only and English is used very rarely.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course itself is prestigious and is mostly opted for by people who plan either on preparing for the Civil Services or those who want to pursue academia. The course structure is framed in a manner that you don't just simply study history there, but you ingrain a critical viewpoint of a young historian. The faculty of History Hons. has some of the best Professors in the University, although you will in any course at any college find some teachers below your expectations, you don't have to bear them for more than 1 or 2 semesters. Passing the exams is not very difficult, but yes scoring above average is. If you get a GPA ranging from 6 to 7, you've performed fine. Above that is considered a Very good performance in Hons. courses of Social sciences at Delhi University. there are semester exams every 5- 6 months
