Remarks

The management and administration is supportive too.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

My course is English literature and the teaching learning process in my department is generally very nice and helped me groom into a better person dsy by day, learning something new from every character I came across in different novels, plays, stories. It has helped me develop a positive and analytical bent of mind. My course is not related to any industrial specific knowledge. So there was no industrial visit organised for the students. The exam structure of DU is fair enough. It is relevant to the curriculum which is taught to us in classrooms. And there is no cheating and access to unfair means. My curriculum and teachers have exposed me to a new mode of learning where we learn analysis and dig deep into every aspect of the study. It has really helped me to develop great cognition and interpretation skills and helped me evolve into a good writer.

Placement Experience

4.5

Several companies join in my college for placement drives. The highest placement package I have heard which even hit the news was about 32 lacs. from Economics department. Since I am a second year student and yet to sit in placements as it happens in the final year, so i dont know of placements in my department. However, we have a Placement Cell in place which keeps us notified of internships throughout the year and helps conduct sessions for the placements. I have personally interned with Youth empowerment foundation as a volunteer. Recently, I applied for a content writer in Study Buddy through our Placement Cell.

College Events

4.5

The biggest festival of our college is the 3 day annual fest - Tarang which generally happens in February. It is sponsored by big companies and famous personalities come to the event. Some other festivals are Noor - Diwali Mela, NEXUS, the festival of NSS, Dr Bharat Ram, the Sports Fest, Veerangna, the NCC fest. Rest, each department has its fest for 2 days too which becomes enlightening. The participation is huge from the college and it is open to outsiders too. In Tarang, each student gets a pass per person for 3 days each. And registrations have to be made for coming to department fests.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The English Department Annual fee was about Rs 15260. And it is to be done online through Delhi University Portal. No additional charges are to be paid. Only annual course fee is to be paid which may vary from year to year and besides that, if admission is cancelled one has to pay 500 Rs cancellation fee.

Fees and Financial Aid

The college offers freeships and scholarships based on the results of previous years/semesters taking into consideration income and reservation and also, merit obtained. I have personally not availed any scholarship from college as I dont meet the criteria. However, for scholarships, one has to submit forms after they are released from colleges with required documents (marksheet/income certificate etc) and then an interview takes place and one is shortlisted and hence selected for internships. A friend of mine received Rs 25000 as a part of Tiara scholarship and ones on basis of merit received Rs 12000.

Campus Life

3.5

My college is a women's college. So it provides space for aspiring young women to develop and learn and come out as better humans. In the beginning, there is freshers party conducted by each department and in the end it is a farewell. Besides, the college hosts annual graduation dinner and party for the final years. There are many societies in our college and each of them has its own fest which provides refreshment to the students from the heavy courses and humdrum of college life. There is a fair tolerance to gender, ethnicity, race, religion, sexual orientation, politics and economic status. Both college and hostel have different committees which look after issues like harassment, ragging, discrimination etc like Anti-Discrimination committee, SC ST cell, Anti-Ragging and harrassment committee, Internal Complaints Committee and Grievance Cell etc. If any problem occurs, a student can report to any of them and get the issue resolved. Besides this the college has a great infrastructure and sports arena where there is sports practice each day. It includes tennis court, basket ball court, volley ball, badminton space, yoga hut etc. Since ours is an arts college, so we just have journalism and psychology labs. Our college also has Hindi and English debating society, Dance and Music Society, Dramatics Society etc hence it is well in terms of extra curriculars and fetches several awards each year for their performances.

Hostel Facilities

4

Yes, I live in the Residence Hall of Lady shri Ram college. It has double seator rooms for 1st and 2nd years and single seators for final years. The admission to hostel is solely on basis of merit and reservation criterion. And total number of seats is about 280-300. Several PG's are available around LSR varying from Rs 8000 to more than 25000 per month depending upon several facilities (distance to college, veg/non veg/ no. Of meals, single/double/triple/quadruped rooms, AC/Non AC etc)

Alumni/Alumna

Our College has an Alumna Cell which the hostel has started too. So there is always a sort of link with the alumna. Several alumna come on different occasions and present their journey of LSR. My interaction with college seniors has been amazing as they have guided me at each step and never let me break down in a set up apart from my home. I once met Justice Gita Mittal, Chief Justice of JK High Court who had once come to an annual function. I got an opportunity to interact with her and it was a heart warming moment as she talked aboit her journey as a student and how she managed to reach the position she was in. It was proud moment talking to her and she also invited me to her office later in Kashmir where I met her and interacted personally too. LSR alumni are amazing, indeed.

Admission

I had 97 percent in my 12th standard thus I met the eligibility criteria for being admitted into LSR as its cut off go higher because of its eminence in Delhi University. I opted English Honours because LSR ranks 01 in the entire country in Arts and I had heard that the faculty of English literature is amazing besides my interest in the subject. Literature had been favourite and LSR was a beginner to step into the journey. I was admitted to the college through admission procedure in June 2018 after the first cut off list came on 19th June. I went to college on 21st and it took half a day for the admission to be done as I had to complete several formalities. The process was smooth as it was driven by volunteers who were there to help out at each and every moment. The steps required are to reach the venue on time, slightly earlier and wait in the auditorium for getting the documents (10th-12th marksheet, any reservation certificate, transfer/migration certificate, DOB certificate, character certificate from school etc) verified from staff there as our turn comes and then we are redirected to different rooms for filling out the official DU form/college form for the course, hostel form for which we are thoroughly guided. Then, the final verification happens in another room by higher officials and our data is input into the online DU portals. As our admission procedure gets completed, we are bound to pay the fees through online portal of DU within stipulated time and hence our admission is completed entirely.

Faculty

4.5

There must be around 15 teachers in my department, ranging from around 30 years to 60 years of age. They are highly qualified starting from adhocs having MPhil's with NET exam qualified to senior professors with their MPhil's and PHD's from reputed universities or abroad. Most of our teachers are vibrant academics and writers and have had a mark in doing something remarkable in the field of literature. Some have authored papers and some are proud writers of some famoud books. I am not sure if they have any industry-certifications.

Placements are available in college, the drive is quite extensive, everyone is made aware of the choices and options and counselling is present too. It is from the third year, students are eligible to apply for placements. Companies and organisations take part such as Niti ayog, Times, Geostrata, Prajatantra foundation, etc. Those who desire usually work on their CVs, keep on doi internships and then get a placement. The packages are not that impressive to be honest.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course is really very interesting. It keeps up with our expectations. Involves both practical and theoretical aspects to make sure that we are able to face the real world. Also, with the help of the guidance that we get from teachers we're able to ace both the aspects. The examinations also are based on applications, thus, helping us to enhance ourselves in all possibilities.

I got a seat in Ramjas College. It is a north-campus college. The infrastructure is too good compared to the remaining colleges. The teaching also going well but I faced some language problems. I'm from south India so I don't understand Hindi properly. But here mostly they teach in Hindi only and English is used very rarely.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course itself is prestigious and is mostly opted for by people who plan either on preparing for the Civil Services or those who want to pursue academia. The course structure is framed in a manner that you don't just simply study history there, but you ingrain a critical viewpoint of a young historian. The faculty of History Hons. has some of the best Professors in the University, although you will in any course at any college find some teachers below your expectations, you don't have to bear them for more than 1 or 2 semesters. Passing the exams is not very difficult, but yes scoring above average is. If you get a GPA ranging from 6 to 7, you've performed fine. Above that is considered a Very good performance in Hons. courses of Social sciences at Delhi University. there are semester exams every 5- 6 months
