UPES, Petroleum Engineering
Reviewed on Jan 5, 2016

Remarks

The course is hectic to much to do in very less timegood environment to study and extra curricular activities. Transport can be a problem if you live in city. Over all if you have passion to be in engineering, don't see about placement, see about knowledge and explore the beautiful area, then its all good. but as i know, no student in the world is fully satisfied with college or faculty but the miss their college after they pass out.

Entrance Preview

I took AIEEE and UPES separate examination for engineering. I secured 10th rank in the test. This is a domain specific college with exciting opportunity to work in oil field. This field provides high paying jobs with global exposure. I had the opportunity to join the automotive design engineering course also. ADE is also equally interesting course but i had a feeling to be the part of energy sector so i chose APE (Applied petroleum engineering).

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

It was strictly focused on oil and gas sector.first year (I and II semesters) are some as general engineering courses with 2 domain specific subjects and from second year on wards domain specific subjects keep on pouring.as the semesters passed, it was really hard to cover all subjects as petroleum engineering is very vast subject. so i have to work hard every semester than previous to secure good marks and be eligible to appear for the recruitment in campus in some very reputed companies of oil industry in the world. I was able to secure a job for me at the end of my engineering through campus selection.

Internships Opportunities

I completed my internship form the state owned OIL INDIA LTD (Raj asset). It was 8 weeks training on the field and in office for designing the jobs. Though i was not offered any stipend from the OIL but gaining industrial experience was very good.

Placement Experience

3.5

This is a down time for oil industry as oil prices are at their lowest of 20 years. but this condition going to change in 1-2 years and oil prices will pick up. this industry has always been good for salary but it also require working in challenging areas. At the time i passed out in 2011, all my batch mates were placed in different companies and these companies CTC is above average. If you are lucky and there is no recession then you can get a good offer from college.

College Events

3.5

I was the part of the annual festival UURJA Blood Donation Camp JUGAD "Innovation"Online gaming competition, there are many other events which are organised by the college like painting competition, body painting, dancing college, band competition, essay competition. But i was not much interested in all these events though i enjoyed all the gaming season and cricket tournament.

Fee Structure And Facilities

At the time i passed out from my college, it was expensive compare the my other friend who were studding in Ghaziabad and Noida or in the Govt engineering college but it was bearable. I took student loan form my engineering.but now i heard that fee structure is very high. My college is one of the expensive college in the country now.

Fees and Financial Aid

Scholarship you can get if you top the college in a year then they provide full scholarship. there is a OBC bank loan facility, which is provided by the bank in collaboration with college. so it is easy to get loan to study in the college. but i did not use this facility. i took loan from SBI from my city.

Hostel Facilities

5

Hostel facilities are good. all the time electricity, warm water in winters, airy rooms. and good mess food, but as always you gonna get bored with the same food eating all these years. hostel rooms are 2 and 3 person share the rooms. hostel seats are very few. you have to book in advance to get the seat. Cleaning and other quality standards are strictly maintained my the hostel staff. For PG accommodation, you can get it in the village near college, about 500m or you can live in the main city and get the college transport to come to college. average rental in the city for PG would be around 6000-7000 per month.

Alumni/Alumna

College alumni network is very active and college set up a separate office and coordinate with the existing students to make a meet annually in the college and at different times of the year in different cities. I was provided with my separate alumni link on the college alumni portal and i can access all information from there only. Portal is manged by college.

Exam Structure

Exam structure is like one exam per day. So it get hectic as the days pass. I remember many sleepless nights during examination. Examination was huge pressure on us there and with that labs also, so overall it is very hectic. but now i realize that those were the preparation for the real world and to handle the pressure situation. I learned a lot from those pressure situations in the examination.

Faculty

4.5

Domain specific faculty is extremely experienced as the are directly coming for the industry and some of them are retired officers of ONGC and has very good amount of practical experience to share with students. labs are also well quipped and using state-of-the-art software.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum is highly relevant, focusing on practical knowledge for real-world prep, though more hands-on application and updated content would strengthen it. Exams occur 6 times yearly; they are tough but fair for the course.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose this course because of its affordability and the teaching quality of this college is good . They helps in choosing the real life application based projects . Teaching methods are impressive but they don't provide notes . We have make notes by attending class regularly. Frequency and timings of exams are of 3 hrs. For each subject . Difficulty level is moderate and students can prepare it well in the gap days also .
