A journey worth sharing

The college is very good in terms of placements and academics but needs improvement in infrastructure rest is all good. Most important fact is that the college is completely ragging free.

I took admissions by WBJEE i.e the state joint entrance examinations for engineering. I was able to secure a rank of around 7500. I opted for Stcet particularly because of its teacher to student ratio which is very high compared to other colleges and also the placements are really very good. Almost every student gets placed before their final year completion.

The course curriculum is in accordance with the AICTE guidlines and is controlled by the state university i.e MAKAUT(formerly WBUT). The course is highly motivated towards research oriented jobs. Most of our college professors have ongoing research work and they encourage students to take part in those.

STCET does'nt provides any sort of internship but it allows fee waiver to students belonging to poor families as well as to minority students.

Placements in Stcet is really good and has high rate of placements compared to other top private colleges in West Bengal. Almost every student gets placed before their final year completion. Companies that visit stcet are Infosys, Cognizant technology solutions, tech mahindra, NRI fintech, Vodafone, Sonodyne, Yodlee, Capgemini etc.

STCET also encourages students to participate in various technical and cultural festivals. Srey is a technical festival of stcet held in every year usually in the month of april. It has various technical events as well as quiz events. Shor is a cultural festival of stcet held every year and organized completely by students of stcet.

The fee structure is completely in compliance with university directives and is controlled by state government. The fee is somewhat around Rs.38000 per semester(6 months) which is much lower compared to other colleges. Besides this the students have to pay a small amount of around Rs.1000 as examination fee per semester. Except this there are no other fees demanded by college,

Campus life is somewhat monotonous. Students are expected to have full attendance in Lab and they must have attendance in class upto a certain percentage. Gender ratio is similar to other colleges and a lot of students from neighbouring states study here. College provides enough oppurtunities for extracurricular activities as well as sports. Time to time various sport competition are held in college. Students of stcet have also proved their mettle in Robotics and various other technical competitions both at state and national levels.

The college does not provides any sort of hostel facilities but it helps students to get accommodation in PG and hostels which are nearer to the college. A lot of PG's and hostels are present near the college where students can seek accommodation at very reasonable prices.

There's practically no alumni network but the college keeps a record of past students and what they are achieving in their life. Senior students are very helpful though they are not allowed to have a interaction with first year students to avoid ragging.

The exams in stcet are conducted in accordance to the directives of the university. However labs are very frequent and students are expected to have high attendance in them because a lot of focus is to make the students more aware of the practical aspects of STCET.

I got admission into this college by my WBJEE rank. At first a student must have valid WBJEE rank and then everything is done by the centralised counselling website where every student who wants to take admission in various WEST Bengal colleges is expected to register. Then all students have to give their preference of colleges and then allotment is done by the counselling board. After allotment each student is asked to visit their respective allotted college for further procedure.

The faculty of the college are really good. Most of our college professors have ongoing research work and they encourage students to take part in those. A lot of professors have PhD and rest have M.Tech degrees in their respective field. The faculty are very helpful and if required they also help beyond the college timings.
