Remarks

Fergusson College is one of the best colleges in India to study Science. I've always wanted to get into the college cause it is a brand in itself. After finishing my 12th with PCB as my subject group, I applied for BSc and got selected on the basis of my 12th score. The college has an independent registration process. The registration forms are released just after 2-3 days of HSC result declaration and admission process usually gets over within a month. Admission is usually done without any hassle and everything is done online.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

I'm majoring in geology and Fergusson College is the most renowned college in India to learn the subject. It does live up to the expectations. Faculty is knowledgeable and friendly and always ready to help you with your doubts and queries. Labs are well equipped and practicals are taken very seriously. Fieldwork is arranged every year to explore the rocks, minerals, famous geological phenomenon and it helps to achieve the basic understanding of geology. Teachers use both digital and traditional method to teach the subject and importance is given to presentations, assignments, seminar, group discussions etc. Theory exams are conducted in Two phases, Sessional and End sem. The syllabus is usually finished within time and students get enough time to prepare for the exams so it doesn't get very hectic. Although Projects and submissions are to be taken seriously.

Placement Experience

4

I'm in the second year currently so don't know much about placements but many companies do visit the college like Infosys, Cognizant, Accenture etc and around 20-30% students are placed every year at BSc level. Many students opt for higher education. The maximum package is 20 lacs per annum and the average pay scale is 4-5 lacs per annum.

Fees and Financial Aid

Since the course is granted, Fees is very nominal. I paid 11k for the first year, 9k for the second and 5k for the third. Many scholarship schemes are available for students like Shahu Maharaj scheme, Gokhale scholarship, Savitri bai Phule scheme etc. Student can also apply for EBC and TFW. Financial assistance is given to students who are marginalized. The internship is also provided to enhance the knowledge and stipend of around 7-8k is given.

Campus Life

5

Campus life is quite rich and amazing. Fest is organised every year in December or January and it lasts for 7 days. Foundation day, traditional day, fest rallies, departmental fests etc are organised by students. The college has a very huge campus spread across 70 acres. The college has a huge library, basketball court, football ground, amphitheatre, 2 canteens and many hangout places. Students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities and clubs like Astro club, physics club, sports club etc are active.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose Biotechnology because it is a multidisciplinary field. We get to study not only topics related to biotechnology but also biochemistry, bio physics, bio informatics, bio statistics, etc. Mostly everything that is essential for future exams is taught during the span of 3 years. The topics of the units are taught in depth but the questions asked during exams are comparatively easy as to what all we studied. The frequency of the exam is, 1 internal exam which consists of both mcqs and written exam, the semester exam for each semester and practical exams for each subject. If u have studied then you will be able to attempt the questions.

Placement Experience:

My college gives campus placement placement opportunities typically after 4th semester, which is the 2nd half of the 2nd year. As my college has a partnership with IBM so the standards of campus placement go right up as the placement depends on the curriculum performance of the student so can't really say much for this. If saying as a stalemate, getting a placement is basically confirmed if the student maintains his/her CGPA of 6-7, which shows the consistent of the student in their field.
