Decent, Peaceful and a Beautiful Crowd

When I cleared the cutoff of Delhi College of Arts and Commerce, I hardly knew much about the college except for the fact that it was a decent one. The admission process went very smoothly as the college official were supporting and the teachers dealing with the admissions were polite. I happen to choose it over Ramjas College, which is in the North Campus of Delhi University. As per my experience in DCAC, I will list down a few pros and cons of taking admission in DCAC: 1. The faculty of DCAC is brilliant and very supportive 2. There is no attendance issue. 3. Supportive seniors 4. Crowd is among the best in DU. 5. College societies are doing fairly well and they groom the students well. 6. Faculty encourages extracurricular activities as well. 7. With few courses and a small campus and an equally beautiful crowd, DCAC is a peaceful place. Cons: 1. You get to miss the life of North Campus, which is although overhyped. 2. The campus and infrastructure of DCAC are average. 3. Average fests

I did choose BA (H) Economics because Economics was my favorite subject and since I had to prepare for Civil Services Examinations, I believed that Economics can help me with my options. The faculty students ratio is around 1:20 in this course. The BA(H) Economics faculty of DCAC is among the bests in DU. Most of the teachers are DSE graduates holding doctorates from renowned Universities. They are well-versed and equally supportive to students. The small size of the department makes it easier for students to remain in teachers' touch and teachers to show interest in bonding with the students, making it a very family-like atmosphere. The department along with teachers go for picnic activities as well. The freshers and farewells also witness teachers' involvement. With good teachers on the board, it's not very difficult to pass exams. A few weeks of hard work (or regularly attending classes) can help you get very good grades. The mathematics-related part could take more time for Maths haters.

Every year, hundreds of companies visit for offering internships to students in DCAC. The most prestigious internships are the ones offered by EY. The fields offered are Financial Analysis, Tax Analysis, Content Development, PR, Marketing, etc. The projects depend upon and vary from company to company. Vyapaar: the Entrepreneurship Cell and The Placement Cell, both organize their own internship fairs on annual basis.

Fifth semester onwards, the students become eligible to apply for placements. eY, KPMG, TresVista, etc. (around 10-12 companies) visit on regular basis. They offer an annual package of 4L. The packages offered are not very handsome because DCAC doesn't have postgraduation courses. Most of the students opt for further higher studies rather than taking up jobs. The placement record is good though. Around 80% of students get placed. I have planned to prepare for Civil Services after getting my degree. Going for MBA, CA, CS, Acturials, LLB, MCom, MA, UPSC preparation, foreign universities, etc. are the most common plans of students of DCAC if they choose not to go for campus placement.

Fees in DCAC are very low like those of other government colleges. It was hardly more than 8000 per year. I didn't witness any hike in fees during my college years. The cost to study in DCAC is not very high. However, since there is no hostel facility for students, the living cost in Delhi could be higher for outsiders. Access to the library and availability of readings at college stationery further makes it cost-friendly. The college is at walking distance from the metro station and bust stop, which reduces the travel cost as well. The students can get various scholarships that are available from the government's side. The college in specific doesn't provide any financial assistance. As far as campus placement is considered, there is a placement cell in DCAC. Various companies such as EY, KPMG, TresVista, etc. hire students on campus. However, the average placement is around 4L only as the college doesn't offer postgraduate courses and most students go for higher studies rather taking up jobs.

The annual fest of the college is Ambrosia and it happens in Feb-March. The fest is however not very grand as compared to the fests of other biggies of DU. Rather, the fest of various societies such as the Department of Economics, Department of English, NSS, Mercado (The Marketing Society), Commerce Association, etc. holds great prestige. Most of the fests happen back to back in the months of Jan-Feb-Mar. The library is decent. Almost all the coursebooks remain available there. Other than that also, the collection of books is decent, with newspapers and magazines in bulk. Infrastructure is average in DCAC. The classroom amenities are not above average too. The college has a sports ground which isn't very big. The football team is doing very well. Other sports are not much encouraged. The college sports infrastructure is poor. There are various cells run by students who are doing great. Mercado: the Marketing Society, Vyapaar: eCell, Enactus, Debating, and Music Society are among the bests.
