Remarks
I wanted to do engineering and the best colleges were NITs and IITs. I aimed for IIT but I landed up being in NIT Silchar. I read all the reviews about this college and as it is in my home state so it was easy for me to grab a seat in this college. After getting the confirmed seat, we had to verify our documents and after all the rounds of counseling were done, we went to the college for admission. The admission process was long but simple. All the seniors were there to guide and help us. They explained every step to us. NIT Silchar is a university of national importance. The placement scenario is decent and the campus is beautiful. I went through various websites and read many blogs while choosing the college.
Course Curriculum Overview
Our scoring system is absolute grading( it was relative previously). There are 2 semesters per year. The first year was a common semester for all the departments where everyone needs to study the same course and at the end of the first year, the top-scoring students get a chance to change their branch if they want. There is a different process for that and various factors are also taken into consideration. We have regular classes as well as Tutorial classes for problem-solving which are conducted by Teacher assistants who are Mtech or Ph.D. seniors. The teaching method is appropriate for most of the teachers and the teachers are interactive as well as supportive. There are few teachers who are a little ignorant, but more or less the environment is very friendly. Mid-semester exams and end-semester exams are conducted along with some minors and viva( for practicals). The exams are of moderate difficulty and no cheating Is allowed as it is a very strict exam.
Internships Opportunities
For third-year students, maximum internship opportunities are present on campus. But apart from that students can apply off-campus as well in the core sectors of refinery or railway. In an on-campus internships, the competition is really high. Various research internships are also available. Students can also take projects under professors.
Placement Experience
The placement scenario is very good. The training and placement cell is responsible for bringing in more companies. The maximum placement is done in IT sectors and the CSE department gets the maximum paid jobs. The highest pay goes up to 35LPA and the average is 8LPA. Most of the students are placed in IT companies. Few core companies also visit but for that, the competition is very high. In CSE almost 100% of students get placement with an average of 10LPA. For other departments, the percentage of placement is a little less but more or less every decent student will get the placement if they work a little hard. My plan after The degree is to get a job from college. I shall be continuing my job for 2 years or so and meanwhile, I'll prepare for some other competitive exams like MBA or IES.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee structure is varied on the basis of your caste reservation and annual family income. The SC and ST students get relief on paying the tuition fees of the college. The annual family income of about 5LPA has to pay the highest fees. The students can avail students loan and take their benefits. When we are in our third year, various internship opportunities are there where they provide stipends as well. The competition to get this internship are tough.
Campus Life
There is an annual technical Fest and also an annual cultural fest with many activities where students can take part and win prize money. Apart from these, all the societies conduct their society weeks with competitions. There are plenty of extracurricular activities including sports games and everything. There are inter-NIT as well. At the beginning of the semester, students can take books from the library where there is a particular number of books which a student can take. Apart from that, students can take any book they want in the later period of the year. There are various other clubs including the Literary club, NCC, Skating club, music club, spiritual club, mountaineering club, dance club, Developer students club, Machine Learning club, coding club etc. These all are run by students.
Hostel Facilities
Our room has one bed, one study table, one chair, one almirah, two fans, windows. The power supply is almost constant and there is connectivity for the internet. The mean is veg as well as nonveg. On weekends there is a Grand fest where many items are available including ice cream, halwa, sweets, Amul cool etc. Registration for a hostel is done in the admission registration only. For the first year, we have a triple seater room but it's double seater in consecutive years. The bathroom and water availability is good and there are many bathrooms present at each corner of the hostel. There is a garden as well as a gym in the girl's hostel. There is a common hall room also along with a basketball ground and cycle parking. There is a canteen in the hostel for fast food. There is a geyser and also a washing machine facility. The hostel Life is very likely affordable.
