Remarks
IITs take students for the BTech program only through JEE Advanced scores which are conducted by different IITs themselves. There are reservations based on the categories and financial conditions of a student's parents. I got admission through the SC quota. One can give JEE advanced only after qualifying JEE Mains conducted by NTA. After that counselling process takes place in which we have to fill different choices according to our preferences and we get a seat based on the rank in JEE advanced (for IITs) and JEE Mains (for NITs, IIITs, CFTIs).
Course Curriculum Overview
I got Electronics and Electrical Engineering in IIT Guwahati based on my rank in JEE Advanced. It's a very good branch with a scope of opportunities in future. IIT Guwahati has a very good student to faculty ratio which is around 10:1. Every faculty here is very highly qualified, they have very great knowledge about their subjects. They are very helpful and research-orientated as it is an IIT. The teaching method is also quite good. Actually, we have attended online classes this year and they managed it very well, whether they are examinations or practicals. This year, method of continue evaluation was followed so exams were very frequent but its not much difficult to pass the exams. Just revising few days before the exam can make us pass but if someone wants to score higher than average marks, then classes must be attended regularly.
Internships Opportunities
Internships are also good here in IITG. Very big companies like Amazon, Microsoft, Flipkart, Godrej, Adobe, Facebook, provide internship opportunities here. I am a 1st-year student so I can not comment much about that.
Placement Experience
Campus placements are very good here as it is an IIT in the top 7 of India. Students become eligible from the 7th semester for placements. Almost evry tech company visits our college for placements like Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Adobe and many more. Also some PSU visits during placements. For the year 2021, 147 companies visited the campus and 686 students were placed with the highest package of 70 lakhs per annum and an average package of 21.41 lakhs per annum. This year around 76% of students from BTech were placed.
Fees and Financial Aid
IITs are government institutions but still, they have high fees which are similar to an average private engineering college. A 4-year BTech program student can easily spend around 12-13 lakhs on incomplete courses including hostel mess charges. For the BTech program, one has to pay 100000 INR as a tution fee per semester but the tution fee is fully waived for SC/ST/PWD students, they just need to pay hostel and mess charges. Also, there are many fee waivers for economically backward students. For students whose parent's annual income is below INR 100000, the tution fee is completely waived and for students whose parent's annual income is between INR 1,00,000 to INR 5,00,000, two-third of the tution fee is waived. Also, many scholarships are provided to category students through the course.
Campus Life
Campus life is very good at IIT Guwahati. It's a very beautiful campus, one among the best in India. It is a lush green campus without mountains, lakes inside it which makes it more interesting and exciting to live here. Alcheringa is the annual fest of IITG, conducted every year in January and it is one of the biggest events of north East India. Many celebrities visit campus during alcheringa like Jubin Nautiyal, Shankar-Ehhsaan-Loy, Sonu Nigam, Shaan and many more. It spreads over for 3 days and 4 nights. Techniche is the annual tech fest. There is a huge number of books in the college library on every topic. Also, the library is fully air-conditioned and remains open for 24 hours during exam days. Sports facilities are awesome on the campus. We have a badminton court, swimming pool, cricket, football, tennis, squash, athletics and much more. There are clubs for every interest like photography, music, dancing, acting, robotics, coding and many more.
Hostel Facilities
Hostels are very good here. We get a table, chair, bed, fan, cupboard in the room, and all the basic daily need items are available in the hostel stationary shop itself. We also have lan connections in each room with very good internet speed. Also, boys get single rooms from the very first year of their course, while 2 girls have to share one room. Mess food is nice means yes one day you will get bore of it, but the taste is good. There are a variety of items given in mess, each day we get different meals. There is a weekly menu. Hostels are alloted randomly after registration of course.
