Remarks
The admission in IITG is by qualifying JEE Advanced with a good rank. Students fill their preffered colleges in a list during counselling process and they get colleges and branches according to their ranks in JEE Advanced. I am from General ews quota. I got chemical engineering in IITG according to my all india rank. Also few other exams are there to get into an IIT like gate and IIT JAM. First we have to qualify JEE mains then JEE advanced and the register for counselling process.
Course Curriculum Overview
IITs are highly reputed institutions in India with an international identity, this was one of the reasons why I prepared for it. Also, campus life and exposure here is very good. I got a chemical engineering branch according to my rank but there is no dearth of opportunities for any branch here. The faculty-student ratio is 10:1 which is very good. Faculty members are very good and highly educated from different institutes throughout the world. The teaching method is also good especially the way the online exams and labs were conducted. Generally, we have midterms endsems and few quizzes in between them, but this year continuous evaluation was there, so only quizzes were there but they were very frequent like almost every weekend. Passing the exams is not a big deal, it's easy.
Internships Opportunities
Internship opportunities are also very good here in IITG. Major providers are Amazon, Google, Flipkart, adobe, bajaj, Nvidia, Godrej, Indian oil and many more. I can't comment on the stipend as I am a first-year student, but yes as heard from seniors, opportunities are very good here in IITG.
Placement Experience
From the 7th semester onwards students become eligible for campus placements. Many companies provide placement opportunities at the IITG campus. Some big ones are Google, Amazon, Nvidia, bajaj, adobe, Facebook. For year 2018-19, Highest package = 1.51 crore, percentage placed = 65%. For year 2020, Highest package = 1.5 crore, average package = 20.62 lacs, percentage placed= 87%. For year 2021, Highest package = 70lacs, average package = 21.42 lacs, percentage placed = 76%. I'll be focusing on on-campus placements.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee is a bit high but it's fair according to other private colleges in the race and it's totally worth paying this fee here. The total fee per semester including mess and hostel charges comes around INR 1,35,000 so for 8 semesters means complete 4-year course becomes INR 10,80,000 and you can add few other expenses also. Banks easily provide education loans for IITs and many students opt for that. Out of the total fee, INR 1,00,000 is the tution fee which, SC/ST/PWD students need not pay. Also if a student's parent's annual income is less than 1lacs, he/she also need not pay tution fee and if parent's annual income is between 1lacs to 5lacs then the student has to pay only 1/3 of the tution fee. Hostel mess charges are the same for everyone. Also, there are other schemes like SC/ST/PWD students get a laptop from the college's side, they only need to pay 10% of the actual price.
Campus Life
Campus life is very very good here. The name of our annual fest is Alcheringa, it has different themes each year and is a 3day 4night event. Many famous singers and personalities are invited to the fest like main attraction for Alcheringa 2019 was Jubin Nautiyal's performance. Alcheringa is conducted in January. Techniche is an annual tech fest which is also a 3day event. Techniche organises Technothlon each year which is a logic-based exam for students of class 9th-12th and it is completely conducted by students of IITG. Sports There is a huge variety of sports on campus like cricket, football, swimming, tennis, badminton, volleyball, basketball and others too. There are clubs for different interests like dancing, music, acting, coding, robotics, photography and others.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel facilities are also good. We get a double sharing room whereas boys get a single room from the first year. There is a table, chair, beds, fan, light, lamp, lan internet connection, cupboard. The rooms are sufficiently spacious and clean. Every hostel has its own mess, canteen, juice corner, stationery shop, sports room. Every basic need items are available in the hostel itself and if something else is needed, the campus has a market complex where we have different shops for each thing. Mess food is fine, not very good but it's fine. But everyone gets bored of it at a time. The menu is nice especially the breakfast. There are both veg and non-veg items. when students complete their counselling and pay the fee for registration, hostels are alloted randomly which are compulsory for our campus.
