All you need to know about IIT Guwahati

Admission was through jee advanced examination for which a student is eligible after qualifying jee mains. After jee advanced, JOSAA conducts counselling in which we have to fill colleges in order of our preference. one can fill IITs only if he/she has qualified to jee advanced. Then, according to our All India rank, seats in the respective colleges is provided. There are reservations for sc, st, PWD, female students. I got admission through the sc quota. Minimum marks vary each year. After the seat allotment, medical certificate and other documents are needed to be uploaded, also the registration fee has to be paid.

My course's (Electronics and electrical engineering) is quite difficult as compared to other branches. I got it because of my rank in jee advanced. Faculty: The student ratio is very nice around 10:1. The faculty is very highly qualified. They have great teaching experience all over the world. No doubt on the teaching side, as it is an IIT. The teaching method is good. They don't just focus on theoretical knowledge. We have regular lab sessions and tutorial classes. Also, they taught us other skills like welding, casting, carpentry in the first year which is very interesting. The result was made from the marks scored in the quizzes which were conducted almost every weekend as a continuous evaluation method was followed. Passing the exams was not very difficult but scoring above average marks needs some effort.

IIT Guwahati provides ample campus internship opportunities. Many big companies provide campus internships opportunities. Few are Google, amazon, flipkart, goldman sachs, bajaj, godrej, BEL, BHEL, indian oil, tech Mahindra, facebook, Adobe, nvidia and many more. Stipend would also be good as heard from seniors. I don't have much knowledge about this topic.

IITG is among the top IITs of India and maintains very good placement statics. Students become eligible from the 7th semester for campus placements. Many big tech giants visit campus for placements. Few are Google, Amazon, Facebook, Adobe, Goldman Sachs, bajaj, Nvidia and more. In the previous years, few students also got packages above 1 crore and Microsoft offered a 1.5 crore package. Despite the covid pandemic, IITG successfully conducted an online placement session and 444 out of 584 students from B.Tech. and B.Des. were placed. placement percentage was 76.02 percentage. The highest package was 70 lakhs and the average package was 21.42 lakhs per annum.

per semester fee of our course is around 1,35,000 (including hostel and mess fee) which is somewhere similar to an average private college. But the facilities and environment you get here are such good that you'll not compare it to a private college. Total spent for 4 year course is around 13-14 lakhs. Our college provides various scholarships. For sc, st, PWD, and students with parent's annual income less than 1lakhs, tuition fee of 1lakh per semester is fully waived and for students with parent's annual income between 1 lakh and 5 lakh, two third of tuition fee is waived. There are few other scholarships provided by our college like laptops are provided to sc/st/PWD students at just 10% of the price also based on academics for all students.

The name of the annual fest of IITG is Alcheringa, 3 day 4night fest. It is the largest fest in northeast India. IITG campus is one of the most beautiful campuses of India and Alcheringa makes it more beautiful. Very famous stars and creators perform in it. Alcheringa takes place in January. Nam of tech fest of IITG is Techniche and it is held in August each year. IITG has a very big library with a very huge amount of books and e-resources. IITG also have a Computer centre. There are 4 lecture halls. Sports facilities are awesome on the campus, you can find each sport you can imagine like squash, athletics, badminton, tennis, swimming, basketball, volleyball, hockey, cricket, football and more. Also, various events are going around all the time like inter hostel championships. IITG have various clubs like photography, music, acting, robotics, electronics, film making, dancing, coding and more. The campus has 3 big lakes and mountains and a viewpoint.

Hostel rooms are very clean and spacious. Boys have single rooms with table, chair, lamp, bed, cupboard, fan, lan internet connection. Girls have double sharing rooms. The hostel has a mess, canteen, tv room, sports room and a stationary shop where you can get every basic needed item. Mess food is good. A weekly menu is followed. Both Vegetarian and non vegetarian items are served. bread butter, tea/milk, egg/banana are fixed with other items in breakfast. The only bad thing is you'll get bored of mess food one day ;). college allots hostels randomly after admission and hostels are compulsory here. There are a total of around 13 hostels.
