Remarks

I have attended various colleges during counseling sessions. However, I selected this college over others since this college has got a lot of discipline and this college is anti-ragging. Apart from this since I stay in Behala this college is nearest to my home. In order to attend this college, you just need to have a WBJEE rank of around 5000. This will do and on the day of counseling which was scheduled at Yuva Bharati, I selected this college and took a demand draft of 15000 on the same day to confirm my booking at STCET. Obviously apart from the initial amount I needed to pay another heft amount for admission purposes. The age for appearing in WBJEE is just 18 years. If you are above 18 years you can easily sit for the entrance exam. If your rank is less than 1k you can apply for govt colleges like Jadavpur. Otherwise, you will have the sole option of attending any private college.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

I chose this course over others since I always had the passion to study signaling-related equipment. Also in order to sit for the IES exam, you need to be from 4 core streams of which electronics and communication are also a part. Also when I attended a college fair before admission over here the host of that college fair advised me to take electronics over other streams since this stream was in demand those days. If we speak about the ratio of the teacher to a student it's 1:65. The teachers were really nice. If you have any doubt in mind you can easily approach them. The teachers were highly qualified. Some were from IIT, NIT. Some left their jobs at Isro, Barc to pursue teaching over here. However, most teachers at least did Mtech in order to teach over here. Exams were quite timely. Even semester was held in March and odd was held in November. Semester exams were of moderate to difficult level. Internal exams were a cakewalk if you have listened to your teachers.

Internships Opportunities

5

I previously mentioned it also. I took the internship as provided by my college in Tata Teleservices where there was no opportunity of getting any sort of stipend. However, some of my friends did internships in Tata steel where they fit a stipend of 5000 per month. In our internship which was a part of our curriculum in the 7th semester, we did learn a lot about industrial work, about practical scenarios and earned a lot of information regarding BTS, towers, allocation of spectrum, bandwidth, and a lot of technical jargon. They used to teach us using a projector and slides were made using PowerPoint slides. After completing our training we had to go for a field visit also. Then on the final day, we submitted our hard copy containing all the training information we gathered during those days. The task was tedious. In order to submit that hard copy, we needed to do a lot of research also. We were divided into groups for making this presentation really worthy.

Placement Experience

4.5

If we speak of campus placements students from the final year onwards are only eligible for campusing. Strictly speaking, if you are in the 7th semester you can sit for an campus program. Our principal recruiter is Cognizant which hires the maximum candidates followed by Infosys which hired the second most. There are other companies like Odessa technologies, ZTE, Sonodyne which also came for campusing purposes but these hired only a few. About 88% of students got placed from our college during our time. The highest package was offered by cognizant of about 5 lakhs per annum. The lowest package offered was 3.5 lakhs per annum. The average package offered by Cognizant was just around 4 lakhs per annum. Many students got double job offers from Infosys and cognizant. I always dreamt of appearing in the IES exam after completing my degree. So hopefully I will pursue the same.

Fees and Financial Aid

When we joined college we were asked to pay 70000 since it included joining fees along with laptop fees which the college provided us. Normally the fees for the semester were around 40000 per semester. However, this fee increased by 1000 from the 3rd year. So it was around 41000 from the 3rd year per semester. From the 4th year it was again increased by 1000 making it 42000 per semester. Since I was a topper guy I got a 10% scholarship over there. This scholarship is entitled to 10% off on tuition fees only. Apart from this, there were scholarships based on minority quota who got 100% off on tuition fees. However other fees like lab fees, development fees, library fees were common for all. If we speak about the internship I did my internship at Tata Teleservices. This internship was without any sort of stipend. However, the level of knowledge I gathered over there is really praiseworthy.

Campus Life

5

The books available in our college were really nice. In fact, the study materials available in our college were sufficient for everyone so you need to visit anywhere for study purposes. The classrooms were neat and clean. The staff rooms had proper ac facilities. If we speak about tech fest there was one called Srey which was done in the months of February or March where students from different colleges took part. Events like Sudoku, Robotics, coding, maths quiz, Impromptu were being organized. There was a cultural fest which took place in the month of August. Here only students of our college participated and did perform some singing, dancing. If we speak of sports, Intra college cricket, football, badminton took place where trophies were given to the winning team. On sports day events like a long-distance races, hurdle races for both boys and girls were being organized.

The campus placements happen in final year of the course. There is a well established placement cell to conduct the on-campus placements. Many well renowned companies visit our college namely Microsoft, Google, TI, TSL, PWC, ICICI, ABG. L&T, etc. The highest package was 50LPA and the average was around 9LPA. Over 90% students got placed from across every department and details of the placement is also available in the college official website. I have gotten a job from the on-campus drive to a core company.

The placements of our college are below average. Studies for placement are more or less relevant from second semester. companies like tcs, amazon etc do visit our campus however very few are selected with package above 4-5 LPA. Most of the students seek out for higher studies and that's my plan too.

Placement Experience:

After the 6th semester, the students are eligible for placements. Mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, Capgemini, etc visit every year and pick up 80-100 students per company. Other companies like Amazon, Thoughtworks, Etc also visit the college. The highest package offered by our college is 15LPA by Thoughtworks. Every year around 75-80% of students get placed on campus. I plan to get a good job work for 2-3 years and then apply for Masters. Overall the placement is very nice in this college.
