Remarks
Amid the pandemic, I applied for admission to Lucknow University and Delhi University in the month of July. The application process was all online. Documents were also uploaded through the online portal of the college websites. Lucknow University released its merit list a month later and I got enrolled in the main campus as a BSc student. Delhi University released its cut-off lists a month later. Obviously, DU has a brand name like none other. When the first cut-off was released, on the basis of the average of four subjects, I qualified for 94% and below courses offered by various DU colleges. Through the DU portal, one had to select a college and course. I made a mistake and selected Arytabhatta College for Pol Science according to 90.2% i.e board results. Once the documents were verified by the college officials, I was admitted but I paid the cancellation charge of 1000Rs and withdrew my name. I waited for the next cutoff and got admitted to Hansraj College in the History+Philosophy course.
Course Curriculum Overview
I was a science student till my 12th. Since then, my aim has been of becoming an IAS officer. DU being the hub for UPSC aspirants and Hansraj College ranked 9th by NIRF had to be my destination for graduation. History and philosophy are important from the UPSC exam perspective. So I opted for these as my graduation subjects. Coming to faculty, DU faculty is known for its quality educators. All the professors have Ph.D. degrees as their minimum qualification and experience of more than 10 years of teaching. The student: faculty ratio is 20:1. The teaching method is through presentations, debates, group discussions, and educational webinars. Since my enrollment, the classes have been online and the mode of examination too. Assessment is 2 way-internal i.e. through assignments, group discussions, attendance, and semester exams. The semester exams were held timely through an online portal and to prevent plagiarism of answers, scanned copies of handwritten answers needed to be submitted.
Internships Opportunities
Recently the internship cell, which I am a part of, came in association with Unacademy, Vedantu, Urban Company for internship opportunities. I did my internship with BuziBrains -a AI tech company. My roles were that of HR and I had a fairly good experience.
Placement Experience
The last year/semester students are eligible for campus placements. A fair number of students come with a UPSC mindset so they don't avail placements. Others get placed in big companies like Amazon, Flipkart, BAIN, EU, Vedantu, etc. with an average package of 4-5 Lac/PA. My plan after getting the degree is the UPSC exam.
Fees and Financial Aid
There has not been any fee hike, it is fixed at 20545Rs /Y as mentioned in the admission details. The fee submission takes online when the college opens up the fee portal. Since education has been online till now, due to pandemics, the cost of the study is only limited to college fees except for laptop/phone expenses. Had there been offline classes, the travel and accomodation cost would sum up to 10-12K per month. The college also provides various scholarships such as single girl child scholarship, merit cum need-based scholarship, etc, and fee concession up to 100%. The college has a student-run dedicated Internship Cell and Placement Cell . These work independently. I secured a paid internship opportunity through their internship portal which benefitted in a great many ways. Placement cell helps final year students to get an on-campus placement at renowned companies such as TCS, Bain, amazon, etc.
Campus Life
The annual fest has been missing, since the college has been online till now due to prevailing pandemic circumstances. Besides, webinars are organized almost every week. The college library is accessible and students can go in and get the required books. Almost every book needed is available. Recently the college has come up with an online portal where books and resources are available in soft copies. Classroom culture has not been experienced yet, since the pandemic lockdown. Apart from that, online quizzes, competitions are something to look up to. The college has numerous student-run clubs and societies, such as Nishtha for UPSC aspirants which provides study materials and organizes sessions imminent beaurocrats, Oorja-the dance society, Green Warriors Club, Mimansa - the philosophical society, all of these which I have been a part of.
