Remarks
The ranking of the College in various education knowledge websites and prior to that my own brother, sister suggested me and also my uncle passed B.Com (General) course from the same college. The teachers are very much cooperative to the students and they are quite friendly to students. The Department of Commerce is very good and well knowned by all living in South Calcutta. Many famous people passed out from this college and working to build up a better tomorrow. The College is completely well disciplined and on time. But one thing I faced is delay in publishing notice for everything from publishing holiday notice to notice for publishing results. Overall I'm having a great experience in this college. But I'm rating it 9 for the delay in publishing notices.
Course Curriculum Overview
I choose this course because I very much like Accountancy and really want to know more about it and which I'm doing current and one other reason is I really wishing to be a cost account in future, which is a dream, I have way work hard to achieve it and I know this college and it's faculties can guide me through that to have a better future for me. The students and faculty ratio is not clearly mentioned but total number of students including B.Com (Honours + General) is 900 and total number of teachers is 22. We had the best eminent teachers and they are well qualified as well. Even in the pandemic they are working so hard to get us the best of the knowledge to us. They are so many teachers from other well known Colleges as well who currently working on full-time in our college. One of the faculty is an ex- professor of St. Xavier's College, Kolkata and is great in discussing topics related to our Study. As I said they are very much cooperative to us and try to solve most of the students query. The exams are taken periodcally in six months gap. The course is semesterized, we have total 6 Semesters in completing our degree, which is of 3 years. Every exams and syllabus is concluded according to the guidelines of University of Calcutta. But because of the current scenario exams, the Semesters are taken in a gap of only four months. I you work hard and have that dedication to pass the exam, then it will be easier for you and because of the online classes the syllabus is cut short. So, I can say it isn't that hard to pass.
Internships Opportunities
No, I'm currently focusing on my studies a d haven't applied for any internships or job opportunities.
Placement Experience
Around before the end of the 6th semester students become eligible for campus placements and after completing the graduation also they are very much eligible. Tata consultancy services is among the top brands that had visited our campus for placements, and also brands like Wipro, Cogsinant and financial institutions like ICICI bank etc. also came here for recruitment. I don't the exact number of placements. But the highest salary offered is around 40k to 80k and minimum is 10k to 25k and an average salary is around 20k. 90% of our college students get placement in different well known companies and financial institutions. Yes, our college also offers in campus placement to students, who deserves it. Our college students get placement in different sectors of companies and financial institutions according to their course of study. I want to study further after completing my graduation and apply for MBA.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fees structure is uncertain, because of the current pandemic there no such certainty in taking the fees according to the sum showed in some educational sites. But the fees is not too high to not to get afforded by someone. If someone find hard to afford it one can rely on the ongoing scholarship which is easily accessible in the facilities menu of the Website, there are numerous number of scholarships listed in the College website. If you got lucky and got the got and fit the criteria you can easily apply for the scholarship and get it for having smooth financial assistance for studying. One of the top mentioned scholarship is Swami Vivekananda Scholarship (SVMCM), which I personally applied for my 1st year and I luckily got it. Yes. This college also offers you on campus job opportunity in some well know banking institutions and companies.
Campus Life
Because of the current scenario, the annual fests and even the freshers program were postponed. But in normal scenario, the College celebrate a fresher program and a annual fest, which is well known as Hemfluence by the students of our college. I unfortunately, I don't have that luck to spectate it because of the this all online thing. Because of the situation, the College library is closed and I can tell in-person the condition of the libary because of that. I didn't have my college experience yet because now classes are taken in online platforms and I think every student did miss this experience. I hope college starts it's offline classes soon, so that I can have my own college life experience. I'm tired of hearing others experience in their college life. As my brother, sister and uncle passed out from this college, I can say that the College is well deciplined and on time. And it had zero tolerance policy against ragging and in case, there's a helpline no. provided in the College website. We also had a canteen in our college, which is currently closed and will be reopened soon after college starts it's offline classes and a there's a common room for all students, where they can connect and know each other. I forgot to mention we also celebrate teachers day , independence day, Rabindra jayanti etc. in our college and two of the biggest events celebrated is Agomani Utsab in Autumn and Basonto Utsab in Spring. We also had different sports activities and events goes on in our college in normal scenario and our college students also takes part in different sports activities, like rowing, table tennis, cricket etc.we also had small group and a basketball court structure in our college. We do have a photography club. But all of these things are currently closed because of the pandemic.
Hostel Facilities
As I live near my college, I don't optioned for a hostel or a rental accommodation. I guess there are numerous number of hostels and rented accommodation and PGs near by if a student is wishing to option for distant studying.
Admission
There are no such interviews taken to get admitted in this college, everything is based on your merit. The College published a merit list for the students and after the first round of admission, if any seats remain vacant then the College would publish another set of merit list for the students to get admission. The process of admission is very simple and well explained in the College website, students don't need to worry about the admission process, if they had scored high in their academics.
