Remarks
The admission process was based on the percentage i obtained in my best 4 subjects in the board exams in class 12th and the respective cut offs released by the college. The only eligibility of Political science courses is simple- you need to include political science as a subject in your best 4 subjects, otherwise 2.5% is deducted from your overall percentage. Application form and dates are released every year by DU and LSR follows it. Usually this is around August-September of every year and admission gets completed by November. Fees is highly subsidised as is expected out of any government college, its 15870 for one year for my course. It varies not much for other courses as well. The admission process is entirely regulated by the Delhi University and takes 3 to 5 days at the maximum for approval. The admission process is quite smooth, but there is a lack of helpline numbers that could help the students in case of their doubts. The few that that exists, are not efficient.
Course Curriculum Overview
Course curriculum is the same as the rest of the Delhi University, it's quite detailed and is gender friendly and inclusive. It really gives an overview of all the facets of the problem which can help develop a critical thinking skills. But an addition, that only LSR students recieve is that the professors here are highly qualified and genuinely love teaching. They are available even outside the classroom and attend to the silliest of the doubts intently. You can clearly see that they have a passion for teaching. LSR has the 2nd best political science faculty after hindu college. The professors here go beyond the prescribed readings and help formulate good answers from exam point of view. Speaking of exams, they are not tough to pass, but internal assessments are strict. The students are taught to write research papers for internal assessments as opposed to simple assignments given in rest of the DU colleges. Professors are the ones responsible for the might and fame of LSR.
Internships Opportunities
Internships are circulated round the year, and are available right from the 1st semester, but the student has to sign an internship policy which contains certain terms and conditions, which you've to adhere or risk blacklisting. The internships are provided by some of the biggest companies like Bank of America, JSW, Citibank, McKinsey, BCG, Deloitte, etc as well as from consultancy firms like polstrat, NGOs, embassies and consulates, government internships, UN programmes, etc. The highest stipend for the internships was 3 lacs per month for a commerce student the past year.
Placement Experience
LSR placement cell is one of the best placement cells of the entire Delhi University. The highest package was over 32 lacs for bcom courses and the average was 7 to 8 lacs for every student. Most students prefer higher studies and go abroad. All those who sit in placements always get a job or the other, because they are trained by the placement cell. The students are eligible for internships and part time jobs right from the 1st semester, they just have to sign an internship policy by the placement cell, pledging to complete whatever internship they opt for. Opportunities are circulated even for the arts courses, which is a rare feat in Indian colleges. Around 165 companies visited the campus previous year. The biggest of the companies like Deloitte, TCS, EY, Bain and company, Citibank, McKinsey and company visited the campus. However sometimes, the placement cell tries to force you to take jobs at a lower pay just to enhance their data, ignoring the interest of the student
Fees and Financial Aid
Fees structure is relatively lower than many other colleges. The 15000 to 16000 that you pay are worth the money because the campus is well maintained, professors are experts of their fields and libraries are equipped with the choicest books and journals. There are a number of scholarships and freeships that are given round the year to the students. They are both merit based and need based. Apart from the centrally awarded scholarships by DU, there are certain scholarships that LSR provides on its own. The books, stationaries, binders and all other study material is available within the campus. Even when campus was shut, it was easy to reach out to the college resource person for the study material. The study material is also subsidised and available at an affordable rate. The overall cost of study is not more than 20000 per year.
Campus Life
The campus is absolutely beautiful. Although it isn't as large as the north campus colleges, it's much more beautiful than every other DU college. The flowers, paintings and overall maintenance makes it at par with international standards. A number of fests, workshops, seminars are held round the year by different departments and societies. There are over 20 societies in LSR, excluding atleast 5 to 6 societies of each department. LSR societies are one of the best societies. Our dance society, drama society and debate societies have won laurels internationally. They give you great exposure, but consequently entry into these societies is quite difficult. You've to go through a rigorous process of interviews and forms in order to make it into the societies. Our annual college fest is called "Tarang" and is one of the best fests of the entire Delhi University. Bands and indie artists are invited during the nights and various cultural activities and carnival is held during the day.
Other Applied Colleges
