Remarks

I got admission in B.A. Psychology Honours in the year 2021. Since CUET had not been introduced yet, the admissions were merit based. The cut off lists for various courses and colleges were released on the official website of Delhi University along with the admission forms. Students applied to desired colleges and courses as per the cut off lists. The whole admission process was completed online along with fee payment. The psychology department at Zakir Hussain Delhi College is the oldest in the country and arguably one of the best. The faculty is amazing, the teachers are helpful, approachable, knowledgeable and good at their job. The infrastructure of the college is a bit old and outdated since it was established in the 18th century but that's not a problem since a new building has been built and will be functional soon. Campus life is above average, various co curricular activities are regularly organised by various socities. The placement cell of the college is also active.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

I have had an avid interest in psychology since I was in 11th standard so it felt like a natural course to choose Psychology as my major for undergraduate degree. Zakir Hussain was always at the top of my list of desired colleges given how reputed the department of psychology at this college is. There are between 60-70 students in the course and for every subject there are 2 professors and 1 assistant professor teaching the students. Almost all the teachers in the department have a PhD to their name and are extremely knowledgeable. They're all kind, patient and understanding of the student's needs and try to make the classes as fun and as interactive as possible. The psychology department of the college specially is very active and regularly organises various workshops, talent shows and special talks. There are 4 papers, 2 core papers and 2 elective papers. The term exams are held at the interval of 4 to 6 months and the students are required to score at least 33%

Internships Opportunities

3.5

The internships (both paid and unpaid) offered by the college differs from course to course. Students from certain courses get better internship opportunities than students in other courses. Since Zakir Hussain is known for its sciences, students pursuing science courses from the college often get better internship opportunities.

Placement Experience

3.5

The placement cell of the college is very active and organises mock interviews and workshops for the benefits of the students. Various multi national companies like ICICI, Whirlpool etc come to the college during placement season. The highest package recieved by a student at undergraduate level was 9LPA by a B.Com Honours student. The placements for students of psychology are not many since most students prefer to go for Masters or Postgraduate studies after the completion of their undergraduate degree. About 80-85% of students get placed during the placements. However, the starting salary or package is often lower than what they expect.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fee structure of the college is very affordable. There are not many opportunities of scholarships provided by the college but that could be because the fees is already very less. Special benefits are provided to students who come from economically and culturally backward background.

Campus Life

4

The college is not particularly known for its annual fest because it doesn't really organise any. However, different departments of the college take it upon themselves to organise fests, workshops and other activities as per the needs of the it's students. The library of the college has almost all the textbooks required by students of different courses and can be easily issued. Students can also get a membership of the library for easier access. The amenities in classroom are basic, proper chair, tables, lights and fans. The college also has laboratories for different courses and have all the necessary equipments and materials. The new building has better amenities including A.C.s in classrooms and lifts outside of them. The college has various functional socities like western and classical dance and music socities, drama society, environmental society, gender equality society and so on. The college also has various sports teams like basketball, football, volleyball etc.

Other Applied Colleges

I wanted to pursue B.A. Honours in Psychology, not B.A. Program.

The course curriculum is a bit too theoretical and less practical. The exams in the college takes places every month which are seasonals and are for internal marking and then we have semester exams in every 6 months which accounts for the external marking.

Placement Experience:

Placements are available in college, the drive is quite extensive, everyone is made aware of the choices and options and counselling is present too. It is from the third year, students are eligible to apply for placements. Companies and organisations take part such as Niti ayog, Times, Geostrata, Prajatantra foundation, etc. Those who desire usually work on their CVs, keep on doi internships and then get a placement. The packages are not that impressive to be honest.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course is really very interesting. It keeps up with our expectations. Involves both practical and theoretical aspects to make sure that we are able to face the real world. Also, with the help of the guidance that we get from teachers we're able to ace both the aspects. The examinations also are based on applications, thus, helping us to enhance ourselves in all possibilities.

I got a seat in Ramjas College. It is a north-campus college. The infrastructure is too good compared to the remaining colleges. The teaching also going well but I faced some language problems. I'm from south India so I don't understand Hindi properly. But here mostly they teach in Hindi only and English is used very rarely.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course itself is prestigious and is mostly opted for by people who plan either on preparing for the Civil Services or those who want to pursue academia. The course structure is framed in a manner that you don't just simply study history there, but you ingrain a critical viewpoint of a young historian. The faculty of History Hons. has some of the best Professors in the University, although you will in any course at any college find some teachers below your expectations, you don't have to bear them for more than 1 or 2 semesters. Passing the exams is not very difficult, but yes scoring above average is. If you get a GPA ranging from 6 to 7, you've performed fine. Above that is considered a Very good performance in Hons. courses of Social sciences at Delhi University. there are semester exams every 5- 6 months
