Remarks
Taking admission is a long process it takes one to clear JEE-Mains to be eligible for JEE-Advanced. JEE-Advanced, one of the toughest exams of the world, is through which admission is done in all the IITs. Application forms for JEE-Mains are out usually during December and 1 month time is given by NTA to fill out forms. The cutoff for open category candidates to be eligible for JEE-Advanced is about 90 percentile while it is 68 percentile for OBC-NCL. Application for JEE-Advanced opens just after the announcement of JEE-Mains result and usually, 15-20 days are given for filling out an application form. Each year different IITs are responsible for conducting the JEE-Advanced exam for example, in 2023 it will be conducted by IIT Guwahati and in 2022 it was conducted by IIT Bombay. There are about 16000 seats in all 23 IITs out of which about 6500 are for open category students. After conducting the exam the college counselling process is done by JoSSA which allots students seats in different IITs.
Course Curriculum Overview
All the teachers here at IIT Guwahati are extremely qualified and each one has a different teaching method but most of them are effective with students. Faculty to student ratio is about 1:11, which is better than most of the IITs. Most of the faculty are Phd. from reputed institutes like Princeton, IISc Banglore etc. Exams are conducted semester wise and surprise quizzes also happen from time to time.
Internships Opportunities
Internship opportunities are no less than any other IIT. Many companies visit and offer internships to students to give them the experience in the industry. Most of the time this internship is paid and a good amount of stipend is given to students. Microsoft, Uber, Apple and all other major companies provide internships to students.
Placement Experience
The placement scene at IIT Guwahati is really good. All the major companies come here to recruit some of the best minds in the country. Students are eligible for placements after completing 3rd year. There is even a 21% hike in no. of PPOs made to students. The highest package offered was 2.05 crore PA. The average package is around 21 lakh PA. The percentage of students getting placed is about 95%. I too am looking for a placement or govt job after getting my degree.
Fees and Financial Aid
Fees at IIT Guwahati, being a govt. college is less than most of the Btech. colleges of India. There are many scholarships for students who cannot afford the fees of college and there is also a provision of interest-free loans in case the student wants to take a student loan. SC/ST doesn't need to pay tuition fees. There are many opportunities for students here. Many companies take students for internships and offer them PPOs. The stipend student get is also very high compared to other colleges in India.
Campus Life
Alchreinga is the annual cultural fest of IIT Guwahati and is conducted in February. Techniche is the annual tech fest at IIT Guwahati. There are many clubs for students to join and there is a club for almost all the activities one can imagine. The library becomes a hotspot during exam time. Almost all the course textbooks are found in the library and students can either issue them and take them to their hostel room or can study from books sitting in the library itself. Classrooms have all the basic amenities like projector, screen, air conditioner etc.
Hostel Facilities
Students are given single rooms for 1st year here at IIT Guwahati. The bed is provided to students and one almirah along with a LAN port is given to students in their hostel room. The food given is of good quality and mess menu too changes after every month. Hostel room rent is 10000 per semester and is quite affordable.
