Course Curriculum Overview
I chose this course because I had an interest in literature and have always been fond of books. In the English department, the teachers were very knowledgeable. Our batch was of 60 students. For some subjects, the student ratio was 1 to 60 and for some, it was dependent on the subject chosen by the number of students. Most of the teachers had done their masters and some were pursuing their P.hDs. Different teachers had different techniques. The teacher who taught us Paradise Lost is great, she explained each and every line of the text by giving the proper reference and background. But some teachers just gave us the summaries and dictated them in the classes. Exams were timely held. Poetry exams were a little difficult to pass as the Reference to poem question was difficult to comprehend. Greek Literature paper was difficult too, but if you have read the book then it's fine.
Fees and Financial Aid
The cost to study was affordable for me. The college has fewer fees than other colleges. I am from the general category, other category students got the scholarships. There were no jobs on campus for our department.
Campus Life
Fests were fine. In my second year, Hardy Sandhu came. The library was the best part of Shyam Lal. I could find the best books and journals for English Department. Old building classrooms were not good. Even the fans were not working. For the new building, they were fine. However, the washrooms were not clean. Shyam Lal has the best ground among DU's colleges. There were many societies. I was the Treasurer of the Literary Society. We organized many seminars and competitions. There were other societies as well, such as poetry and music etc.
Admission
The eligibility was based on the 12th mark. 12 cutoffs were released by DU and made available on the website. I applied from DU's website, it was easily available there. Application fees were around 2000. My percentage matched the 5th cut-off for Shyam Lal College. The admission process was very simple. I took my class 12th documents. I got the woman quota.
Other Applied Colleges
Delhi University - [DU] | Bachelor of Arts [BA] {Hons.} (Political Science)
I got English in other college.
