Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

Since class 9th I had developed an interest in the subjects like History, Political Science so I chose to pursue it as a career. However, I had no knowledge about the functioning, and admissions for DU, therefore I did a thorough research online and decided to get admitted into LSR because I had heard that LSR provides the best education and faculty for Political Science. There are 18 faculty members for a student strength of 150+ students. The professors are highly qualified Ph.D. holders. Their methods of teaching are unique and student-friendly. They use methods like reaction papers and other techniques to make the syllabus handy for the students. The teachers after every session end conducted surveys asking students to review their teaching methods. The teachers were respectful towards the students. The students were made to write Research Papers, Reaction Papers, and Presentations for Internal Assessment and the teachers marked students honestly based on their performance.

Placement Experience

2.5

The Placement Cell of LSR has been thriving with students bagging the highest packages in the entire Delhi University. Students in the Final Semester of their college become eligible to sit in the placements. The number of recruiters has gone above 110 in 2022 and more than 200 offers were made. The highest package in 2022 was INR 44.8 LPA. The average package amounted to an aggregate of INR 11.8 LPA while the median package was INR 9.5 LPA. The percentage of students getting placed is rising continuously. About 70 to 80% of students sitting and getting placed in good organizations. However, I did not sit in the placements because I plan to pursue a career in academics. I am currently a regular student of Master's in Political Science at the University of Delhi.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees ranged between 10,000 to 17,000 per year. During the lockdown due to student protests, the fees were decreased. The current fee is 17,916 per year. The fees for the course are low as compared to many other colleges, however, there has been a slight increase in the fees now as compared to the past 2 years but the scholarship programs of LSR cover the tuition charges for the students. LSR has a robust freeship and scholarship program. I received the freeship for 2 years which included the complete fee charges. It is provided to students who maintain a minimum of 7 CGPA in all semesters and whose family income is below 3LPA are eligible for freeship. LSR has various scholarships for different departments. Students who meet certain criteria of academic merit are awarded scholarships. There are also scholarships for the Watd Welfare students.

Campus Life

#TheMagicofLSR. It's what one will feel since their first day in college. Life at LSR is liberating. We are taught to unlearn and learn. The aura of LSR just captures the mind. LSR holds its annual fest TARANG during March every year and various inter and intra-department fests are organized throughout the year. LSR has a huge library with over 1,50,00 books and journals available to students. There are 2 libraries for the convenience of students. The classrooms are wide and spacious with projectors and good ventilation. LSR has various playgrounds and courts for various sports open to all students. Sports Day is organized every year. It is compulsory for students to choose between NCC, NSS, and NSO (National Sports Organization). LSR is the best place for the overall development of a student academically and in other extracurricular activities. There are a number of societies and clubs run by students for various social, and political campus-based programs, causes, and activities.

Admission

Any student who has completed 10th and 12th from a recognized board with a minimum of 50% is eligible to apply for the course. Until 2021, the admissions for the course were done on a merit basis based on the marks scored in class XII but now the admission is done through CUET for all the colleges of the University of Delhi. The application fees for unreserved candidates if 750 for up to 3 subjects, 1500 for 7 subjects, and 1750 for upto 10 subjects; for OBC-NCL/EWS candidates it is 700 for 3 subjects, ?1400 for 7 subjects and 1650 for 10 subjects and for SC/ST/PWD/Third gender candidates it is 650 for 3 subjects, 1300 for 7 subjects and 1550 for 10 subjects.

Interview Experience

5

The Group Discussion and Interview round for the admission was very easygoing and friendly. The teachers asked basic introductory questions and what led me to choose this specific course and college. I got admission on a merit basis therefore I was asked about other courses in which I might have been interested and if I would pursue a minor degree in the same. I honestly went unprepared for the interview and gave honest answers about my interest in Political Science.

Placements are available in college, the drive is quite extensive, everyone is made aware of the choices and options and counselling is present too. It is from the third year, students are eligible to apply for placements. Companies and organisations take part such as Niti ayog, Times, Geostrata, Prajatantra foundation, etc. Those who desire usually work on their CVs, keep on doi internships and then get a placement. The packages are not that impressive to be honest.

The course is really very interesting. It keeps up with our expectations. Involves both practical and theoretical aspects to make sure that we are able to face the real world. Also, with the help of the guidance that we get from teachers we're able to ace both the aspects. The examinations also are based on applications, thus, helping us to enhance ourselves in all possibilities.

I got a seat in Ramjas College. It is a north-campus college. The infrastructure is too good compared to the remaining colleges. The teaching also going well but I faced some language problems. I'm from south India so I don't understand Hindi properly. But here mostly they teach in Hindi only and English is used very rarely.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course itself is prestigious and is mostly opted for by people who plan either on preparing for the Civil Services or those who want to pursue academia. The course structure is framed in a manner that you don't just simply study history there, but you ingrain a critical viewpoint of a young historian. The faculty of History Hons. has some of the best Professors in the University, although you will in any course at any college find some teachers below your expectations, you don't have to bear them for more than 1 or 2 semesters. Passing the exams is not very difficult, but yes scoring above average is. If you get a GPA ranging from 6 to 7, you've performed fine. Above that is considered a Very good performance in Hons. courses of Social sciences at Delhi University. there are semester exams every 5- 6 months
