Course Curriculum Overview
The course I chose is Electronics and Communication Engineering. I chose this course as I was interested in the microchips semiconductors and stuff related to this. The faculty-student ratio is 1:10 which is pretty good even among the IITs. There are just over 1,000 students among freshers this year at IIT Guwahati. The faculty were teaching pretty decently and many of the faculty are PHD scholars from many reputed institutions. The faculty here teaches using slides on the laptop. So it is convenient to review them as we can listen to class instead of worrying about notes as they will be sharing the slides through emails. There are 2 semesters in a year and each semester has a midsem and an endsem exam. The exams are generally average in terms of difficulty and most of the students pass these exams
Placement Experience
Students from the 7th semester become eligible for campus placements. Many big MNC companies like Google Amazon etc. The highest package offered in my course last year by a domestic company was 2CPA. Above 90 per cent of students in my course get placed in a good company. My plans after getting the degree are travelling the world
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee structure is 200000 rupees annually and 100000 rupees per semester. The fee hike is not that significant as I think the fee remains almost the same through the four years. I am still an undergraduate btech 1st year so I have no job and no scholarship to speak about that I got on the campus
Campus Life
The tech fest conducted here is called Techniche. It was conducted in the 1st week of September. The annual fest conducted here is called Alchenringa. It is conducted in February. There are multiple books in the library which are free to use for all the students of the college
Admission
The application process for my college was by the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) advanced which is written after being able to qualify for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) mains. The cutoff for my course in IIT Guwahati was All India Rank 829 in the OBC reservation category. I got my All India Rank as 733 in the OBC reservation category. The details about the application form was given through JOSAA.
