The IITIAN life

I chose this course because it was the best I could get accoring to my rank. The campus has around 450 faculty memebers with 8000 students present. IIT Guwahati is known for its highly qualiified faculty members who often hold advanced degrees(Phd or equivalent) from prestigious around the world. Just like all the other IITs we have different teaching methods ranging from lectures, quizes, assignments , labs to provide the students with comprehensive learning experience.

In the academic year 2022-23 100+ companies have come for the internships. Various companies including Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Oracle have offered internships. The stipends range from 1 lakh per month to 30k for a period of 2 months. Unfortunately I couldn't sit for the internships due to my low cpi.

The students become eligible for placements in the 7th semester as the placement season begins. For the year 2021-2022, 200+ companies came to the campus for placements. A total of 900+ offers were made. The highest package offered was around 2.4cr grabbed by a student from the CSE department. The average package of the entire btech batch was around 23 lpa. The placement percentage was around 80?. The profiles range from, IT/Software, Non-tech, Core eng, Finace, Analyst, Education Design

The fee structure varies depending on different types of programmes and the category of students. The tution fees details for the btech programmes are as follows: 1. For GEN, GEN-EWS, OBC-NCL : 1,52,150 rs 2. For SC, ST , Pwd and MEB students the team is tution fee waiver. Note:MEB refers to most economically backwards students. There are different kinds of scholarships provided to students based on income and academic excellence.

Alcheringa is the cultural fest of IIT Guwahati. It has no fixed date but it usually conducted during the months Feb-May. It is the largest fest conducted in North East India. Techniche is the Technical fest of IIT Guwahati. It is conducted during the months Sep-Nov. Like any other IIT, IIT Guwahati boasts a huge library consisting of over 1,50,000 books and 12,000+ journals. For Sports we have the Spirit tournament which is conducted annually. Different hostels compete with each other in various sports and win the General Championship. There are various kinds of clubs ranging from technical to finance and consulting as well. Some of these include Coding club, Finance and economics club, Robotics Club, Fine arts Club.

The hostels are something in which the college definitely needs to improve on. The students are provided with single rooms from the first year itself. In rooms we are provided with fan, bed, shelves and a table light. The mess quality is average and the menu varies hostel to hostel depending on the dishes decided by the HMC's (Hostel Managing Committee)of different hostels. Since IIT Guwahati is a residential campus , majority the students stay inside the campus. The city is far away from the campus so it becomes difficult to stay at a PG.

The admission to the college was done on the basis of the rank of the candidate in the JEE (Join Entrance Examination) exam. The eligibility of the exam is that the candidate must be 12th pass and must have more than 60% in PCM subjects. The candidate must then clear the JEE Mains and JEE Advanced. Then based on the rank in the JEE Advanced admission to various IITs is done. I availed the reservation benefits belonging to the SC category. The admission process is fair and needs no changes according to my opinion.
