Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

I had interest in geography since my schooling days.Different geographical phenomena & landform patterns used to excite to me.It always made me inquisitive. So, i thought about pursuing geography honours in graduation & thankfully got it.Getting Jamia Millia Islamia,my dream University was icing on the cake. Due to COVID pandemic impact, university was not able to begin courses on time.Normally, academic calendar begins on 1st of August but due to pandemic impact classes began on 1st September,2022.Faculty here is good and approachable.Classes were held regularly and attending classes in university/college for the first time was different experience. In one batch around 60 students are admitted.Professors are interactive and queries are taken in every class and responded beautifully.Odd semester exams are usually held in December and even semester exam in June.Exams are not difficult to pass but scoring good grades require hardwork.

Placement Experience

3

In different courses, placement opportunities are different. In my course, for say bachelors in geography honours, there is very limited placement opportunities. But there are many course in Jamia such as BTech,BALLB,BA Hotel Management, Foreign language courses, MBA etc companies visit the campus and select students. From 7th semester onwards, students become eligible but generally in last semester students go for campus placement. Around 45 recruiters came for campus placements like KPMG,HCL, Accenture,ICICI etc came for placement.INR 25 LPA was the highest package offered.10 LPA was the average package. Around 70% students got the placements. My plan after getting the degree is to appear in the civil services examination as of now.

Fees and Financial Aid

In first year,I had to pay eight thousand rupees as fee which is not very high. There are various scholarships opportunities in campus.Scholarship opportunities include aajmi scholarship by Jamia alumni,Dr APJ Abdul Kalam scholarship by university administration, one time scholarship amount to first, second and third rank holders of all the courses. Students also apply for the Ministry of Minority Affairs scholarship on national scholarship portal. Many students take up home tuition job to bear the cost of their studies. There are many other ways to earn money to manage the cost of studies. I have also applied for few of the scholarships this year and results have not been announced yet.

Campus Life

4

Life at campus is very interesting having people from different parts of the country.Interaction with diverse people gives enriching experience.Tea is very popular among jamia students.Having fun & discussion on various topics at tea stall is regular routine. Annual fest are conducted by different departments in the month of March and April. Zakir Husain Library, having lakh of books, journals, magazines &newspapers is a very important centre of learning in university campus. One can read books sitting in the library and even issue it for some days to bring home. Classroom has good infrastructure single chair for each student, projector, blackboard etc. Sports facilities for students are available.Nawab Mansoor Ali Khan Sports complex has various sports facilities like Cricket ground, badminton court, basketball court, gym for sportspersons, football ground etc.Inter faculty sports competition are held every year. Societies in Jamia include Quizento(Quiz Club), Tabeer(Literary society)etc

Hostel Facilities

5

Hostel in Jamia is limited. There is a popular saying that getting hostel in Jamia is more tougher than getting admission.Interview is conducted for admission in to hostel and there are several criteria on which marking is done. I am staying in hostel right now.In one room, three students reside.Facilities in room include one bed,one almirah, one table & chair provided to each one.Beside that everybody has been given their charging point, tubelight etc.One common mirror is installed in the room & balcony is also available in every room. Quality and menu of food is such that you can rely on mess food while your stay in hostel. You'll rarely have to eat outside. I have mentioned the registration process above.38000 rupees is charged annually in hostel which is affordable than staying outside.

Admission

Generally in the month of March or April, application forms to appear in the entrance test for admission into different courses come. In few courses,CUET has been introduced. In the month of June, an entrance test was held. I applied through the JMI Internal quota, provided to those who have attained senior secondary education from Jamia Schools. As I scored more than cut off of the general category, my name appeared in the list of general category students. The result came on 21st July 2022 and I was asked to come for admission formalities on 10th August 2022. Documents to be brought were mentioned in the result including a few which are made in Jamia Campus, gate no 4. Everything went well and admission formalities were completed on the 10th of August. I didn't face any kind of difficulty in this process.Once admission formalities were completed, I visited my department and asked about the class start date and other queries.

The course curriculum is a bit too theoretical and less practical. The exams in the college takes places every month which are seasonals and are for internal marking and then we have semester exams in every 6 months which accounts for the external marking.

Placement Experience:

Placements are available in college, the drive is quite extensive, everyone is made aware of the choices and options and counselling is present too. It is from the third year, students are eligible to apply for placements. Companies and organisations take part such as Niti ayog, Times, Geostrata, Prajatantra foundation, etc. Those who desire usually work on their CVs, keep on doi internships and then get a placement. The packages are not that impressive to be honest.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course is really very interesting. It keeps up with our expectations. Involves both practical and theoretical aspects to make sure that we are able to face the real world. Also, with the help of the guidance that we get from teachers we're able to ace both the aspects. The examinations also are based on applications, thus, helping us to enhance ourselves in all possibilities.

I got a seat in Ramjas College. It is a north-campus college. The infrastructure is too good compared to the remaining colleges. The teaching also going well but I faced some language problems. I'm from south India so I don't understand Hindi properly. But here mostly they teach in Hindi only and English is used very rarely.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course itself is prestigious and is mostly opted for by people who plan either on preparing for the Civil Services or those who want to pursue academia. The course structure is framed in a manner that you don't just simply study history there, but you ingrain a critical viewpoint of a young historian. The faculty of History Hons. has some of the best Professors in the University, although you will in any course at any college find some teachers below your expectations, you don't have to bear them for more than 1 or 2 semesters. Passing the exams is not very difficult, but yes scoring above average is. If you get a GPA ranging from 6 to 7, you've performed fine. Above that is considered a Very good performance in Hons. courses of Social sciences at Delhi University. there are semester exams every 5- 6 months
