Remarks
Infrastructure and crowd is a bit of concern in this college. The faculty apart from few gems is all which can bother you. Would recommend Bliss Point coaching centre for all Economics ans B.Com students if you want to score good.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum for every college of DU is same. Because the exam paper is prepared centrally and is same for all. We were the FYUP batch which again got converted into three year program. Initially it was difficult to adjust. But no good course come with an easy curriculum.
Internships Opportunities
Don’t about what is happening currently in SLC. But at the time when we were there. There was no such program for internship. There was only a program called gyanodhya I doubt if this is the right name that I am mentioning. Basically, on the basis of some project, students were selected for an educational trip. No idea about any internship being offered now.
Placement Experience
We were the lucky batch because SLC placement cell started from our batch only. And now I am placed in Royal Bank of Scotland(RBS). The Placement Cell and the Placement opportunity both are developing year by year. There is a good scope of getting placed after your graduation.
College Events
When you are in Delhi University then the celebration never ends. The biggest festival for them is Election with all the dhols and hooting. Apart from that, there is annual fest of college and along with it there are also annual fests of every individual departments which are full of activities for you to participate and win prices. Along with that there are events of Dance, Debate and Music societies which even give you a chance to perform in different colleges.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The free structure of a government college is feasible for a middle class. But being an economics student I can very well understand that affordability of anything can never be judged by an individual. ?8000-?9000 for an annual fees may be very less for few, be very okay for few and very hard to manage for few as well.
Fees and Financial Aid
I have no idea about loan facilities offered by our college but I guess there may be few scholarships for the students. Nothing that I can confirm as of now. You will get to know that in college only.
Campus Life
I have never lived a campus live since our college was an out of campus college. However, if I consider Shyam Lal college as a campus then yes there are plenty of extracurricular activities that are being conducted in the college. Like debate, sports, singing, dancing, rangoli competitions.
Hostel Facilities
Mess food and hostel both are not there in Shyam Lal College. But the canteen over there is also a total mess. According to me not worth eating for. Anyone who is aiming at getting admission in SLC, I would advice you guys to go to the food outlets of Shahdra which are on the backside of our college to grab something good to eat.
Alumni/Alumna
Being an alumni I can say that yes we there to help you but the best help to you will be by your teachers and senior students who are there with you in the college.
Exam Structure
Exam structure is very easy going. Not as hectic as your board exams. But as we know life is not a bed of roses and exams are never easy to handle. Even though we may get plenty of time gap in two exams. They study starts a night before the exam. Still I would say it is easy to manage if managed with dedication and hard work.
Admission
We first need to register for DU. Then as and when the cut offs come. Take all the documents including 10th and 12th pass certificate, marksheet, provisional, transfer certificate, ID proofs, passport size photographs (original along with 3 photocopies of each) and also carry the OMR DU registrations sheet. Once you will go for admission. There are volunteers to guide you. Please don’t forget to take the original along with 3 photocopies to avoid wastage of time.
Faculty
When it comes to faculty, not all are same. By this I meant, a college like SLC will surely create some doubts in your mind regarding the Faculty. However, not all are same, there is a mixture of all types. I was lucky enough because I was taught by the two Gems of Economics. Mr. V.K. Puri and Mrs. Supriti Mishra. Students aiming for SLC would still get an opportunity to learn from Supriti Ma’ am but Puri sir got retired in our final year of graduation. You can still find his wonderfully well explained books in the college library.
