The college was first built and administered in the year, 2003. Since then it has shaped and created the life and future of all the staff members who are or who passed out from here. It includes even non-teaching staff members too. Middle and lower class peoples struggle a lot to make their ends meet. UPES has held thousands of such hands and had provided a way better employment. Students who get stranded soon after their 12th in their career options have a positive and catchy remark about the college. More concerning about UPES is its breathtaking location. It is situated amidst the mountains and hills. Adding that, it is surrounded by blooming forests and some scenic views. In fact, the college is placed in the lap of Nature. It often seems to be a tourist destination and attraction. One can easily find more than 50 spots to detoxify and relax/herself within 5 to 8 kilometers range of the campus. Now, I think I have reviewed my college and its impact on the lives of students and professors.

Entrance Exam

My Course Curriculum is oriented to IBM. Even my specialization course is too affiliated with IBM. Few courses are even affiliated to Xebia, Oracle and Infosys. Computer courses of B. Tech and BCA as provided by UPES are all affiliated to leading IT industries. This is the reason why our students access something to advance and highly technical. The course curriculum also assures the use and need of those technologies even 20 years hence, in the life of UPES pass-outs.

Few internships are given to students through college while few are acquired by students by some external sources. At least 3 internships are required by an individual to confirm a seat for the interview. Right now, I am in 2nd year, so I don't know about internships in abundance. Generally, students take internships from the 3rd year onwards. However, for any kind of internships, the student must meet the minimum pointer criteria. His/her grades are very essential before joining any internships.

Not all, but still some get placed annually. The packages offered by the companies depend upon the skills, grades, academics and the performance in the interview. The average rate of packages for computer branch students varies between 7 lacs to 8 lacs. However, for non-computer engineering students average package is between 5 lacs to 7 lacs. Maximum students join UPES for the placements. Some also for the gateway to higher studies. Students aspiring for higher studies believe that the placement and job opportunities get widen after Mastery courses. And undoubtedly, UPES also provides Mastery courses.

Annual UURJA is celebrated during mid-October as the main festival. It includes the cultural and traditional heritage of the nation in the forms of arts, music, dance and stage drama. It lasts for 2 days and apart from the main night performance several small competitions and group tasks are organized to channel the energy, sportsmanship, and talents of the youth. Annual technical fests and workshops are conducted within the campus. One of the common events is HACKATHON. It is a technical event that witnesses the maximum number of participations. It is a 3 day-night coding competition. A single member cannot participate here, rather he/she needs a group of 5 members to compete. This, in fact, enhances and cultivates the quality of group tasks among the students.

One of the strongest reasons why students are reluctant for taking admission in UPES, despite its glamorous infrastructure and environment is its fee structure. I will never consider the fee structure of my college feasible. I am definitely going to win the bet if I place a challenge with you in searching the list of Top 20 colleges of India and checking the name UPES on that list. I know for sure, UPES will be mentioned on that list. The semestral fee of all the branches of engineering in this college varies between 1,50,000 to 1,90,000. Non-computer branches are a bit costlier than computer branches. Apart from course fees, if we observe hostel fees within campus, they are also not liberal. The per semester hostel fee is 1,40,000. Moreover, the fine rates of immoral conduct or any kind of misbehavior is also charged.

Scholarship depends upon your board merit. It comes in the act during the time of admission. If needed, it may also arise during the course. So scholarship also depends upon the academic performance. The loan facility is availed by the students who cleared the GRE qualification exam of their respective states. It may also apply to the students who met with accidents or any kind of mishaps. Students who suffered the loss of earning individuals in their families can also avail of the loan facility.

Extracurricular activities take place from time to time. It may be technical or non-technical. It may be academic or non-academic. Many workshops are arranged within and outside the campus during technical fests. Students access the latest models of hardware components in the system, that is designed for performing in IT labs. Apart from this, labs of Physics, Chemistry, Electronics, and Machinery also run in accordance with the learning and comfort of students. Sports ground consists of three games and their arenas. They are volleyball, basketball, and football. Football has the maximum share in the ground or it occupies the largest. Occasionally, a cricket tournament is also organized on a short pitch created on the main ground itself.

First of all, I don't avail of the hostel facilities within the campus. I reside outside UPES. Hostel blocks and compartments are constructed in accordance with the semesters and gender. The seniors and juniors may live under a single roof of one block but in separate rooms. But the boys and girls have to live in distinction. The boy's hostel block is built on campus while that of girls is built a few meters away from it. Since the number of boys in the campus hostel is more than the number of girls, the size of the compartments is built comparatively. However, the mess and menu run the same for both boys and girls. The boys' campus is built in the vicinity of the library, IT tower, laboratory, and sports ground. The girls campus is in the vicinity of outside forests and sports ground. Despite, the near presence of forests, tight and strict security protects the block.

Seniors help and support more than teachers. If you want assistance in assignments and projects or any kind of preparation whether it is academic or non-academic, and that also anywhere and anytime, you must think about the seniors. It is the coexistence of seniors and juniors in harmony with the unity that shapes the framework of the college. Seniors have always been known for their cheerfulness, unconditional support, and bondage with their juniors. Ragging is nearly non-existent here. Hence UPES is successful in creating family entertainment for the students who sustain here with the guardianship and parenthood of teachers and also the brotherhood of the seniors.

For assessing the students throughout the semester, two exams are taken at the breakage of three months. These are the mid-term exams and end-term exams. The final grades of the students at the end of the semester are prepared on three bases, namely internals, mid-term and externals. The weightage of internals accounts for 30%, mid-terminal account for 20% and the rest 50% depends upon the externals. Internals include all the stuff such as assignment, project, viva, labs, attendance and few more.

UPES takes admission on three bases. The first one is through clearance of JEE Mains, the second one is on the basis of board merit and at last when neither of the two suits your profile, it itself conducts an entrance exam. This Entrance exam is known as UPESEAT. I was admitted here by fulfilling the third criteria. And, in this also two methods are available as per student's convenience. One is offline and another is an online test. I chose online test. After passing UPESEAT, they notify the candidate through mail about their selection and even further registration process. A day is then declared for the counseling and same day registration happens. The following day, the candidate gets enrolled for the first-semester course of the institution.

Faculties of UPES are one of the top reasons for the students taking admission here. Some college faculties have already passed a Ph.D. and few are pursuing it on their on-going teaching line. Young generation professors bestow something to the students who have a profound impact on their lives. Some students even claim that their projects and assignments get approval for the interview due to the unconditional support by their respective faculties.
