What Students Say
Likes
- The faculty is really helpful when it comes to personal or academic matters. You can share your problems with them and expect a sense of understanding.
- The transport facilities are brilliant as compared to other off campus colleges as Zakir Hussain has it's own bus stop. Delhi gate and New Delhi metro stations aren't far as well, making bus and metro travels very easy.
- The quality of social interactions has been great. I haven't experienced any sort of discrimination or ragging. The seniors of almost all departments are very welcoming and helpful.
Dislikes
- The college sports facilities aren't that great. Grass hasn't been trimmed in more than a month. The football team has to find alternative playgrounds to practice.
- The new building of the college, though looks brilliant, hasn't been opened for students in years and there isn't any real progress on this situation as well currently.
- The college canteen is below average, the quality and taste of food isn't that good and the eating area is not cleaned regularly.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum for history involves many activities and trips which makes the curriculum very interesting as well as real. Within a month of college, our department has been on three different historical walks to different monuments of Delhi. This way of teaching promotes the student's curiosity to learn and dig deeper into the world.
Fees and Financial Aid
After the confirmation of my admission, I had to pay the annual fee in one installment. The annual fee for my course (B.A. History hons.) waa ?13,950 for the first year. Apart from that, no money was charged from me in the name of tuition fees, caution fees etc. The registration fees was submitted on the CSAS portal itself.
Campus Life
The range of books available in the library is extremely vast. There are a huge number of books in the library comprising of all the subjects that are taught at the college and more. The books are available in several languages including English, Hindi, Urdu, Persian, Sanskrit etc. The library is fully air conditioned and is an ideal place to study. The facilities within the classrooms are not that good. The chairs and tables are old fashioned and the walls are mostly scribbled upon. There is no air conditioning in the classrooms, only ceiling fans are available. The sports facilities aren't that good either, the grass hasn't been cut in a long time and the conditions are not ideal to play. With a little bit of care, the sports facilities can be improved a lot. There are a lot of societies for a student to participate in. The quality of competition within the societies is great. Zakir Husain has societies which are never dormant and always participating in different events. The best of these societies are the MUN society and the Debate Society.
Admission
I applied to colleges like Jamia Millia Islamia but I fell short of the cut off marks. It was mainly due to the reason that I hadn't really prepared for the examination as I was busy preparing for my boards and CUET. The admission process for Zakir Husain is the same as any other college of Delhi University. The applicant has to appear for the CUET examinations and select the subjects according to the requirements of his course. Scoring somewhere around 680/800 would be a safe score to get an admission at Zakir Husain Delhi College.
Faculty
The faculty of my department, i.e. history, is extremely welcoming and approachable. The faculty in general invites students to share their problems and try to provide their help. The faculty takes their job very seriously and always intends on teaching, not missing any class and utilising time in the best possible way.
