Course Curriculum Overview

5

My course is English Honours and we study a lots of different greek and indian plays in it. Most of them are based on Gender discrimination and how Patriarchy affects the growth of society. We also study the old epics like Mahabharata and also about the trojan war. Somehow, all our plays and novels are interconnected and our professors helps us in identifying the similarity between Indian ancient texts and Greeks epics and many other civilizations. The results are mostly similar and we also find that all the epics have a similar consequence of birth and growth. We study about human nature and how no-one is perfect and everyone have flaws. Even the gods were flawed and the dark secrets hidden by the unquestioned glories are also being revealed. We learn how people survive through the societal pressures and how it affects them. The curriculum prepares us for the real world by showing us the truth of the society and how it's hidden by the world. It helps us to know our potential and makes us ready to fight and stand up for ourselves. Reading epics and analysing them helped me to be perfectly ready to face the world and question the old conservative ideology.

Internships Opportunities

3

We have a placement cell in our college and it has many groups based on different courses and preferences , they provide us with many internship opportunities and programs daily. They also helps us in filling the form without any mistakes and also helps us build a good CV and Resume The placement cell not only gives the detailed report of the internship programmed but also helps us with early bird advantages in many opportunities.

Fees and Financial Aid

Gargi College fees isn't very high and is affordable. My admission fees was rs18,015 and was competitively lower than other du colleges. It was affordable for a person like me who comes from a not so well economic class. There was also examination fees of rs1,430 and then department wise fees for educational trips is rs600 though we haven't yet seen any good use of the fees paid by us. The college was low fees but also the low results.

Campus Life

3

The campus life in Gargi is good and the crowd(students) are really respectful and responsible. But still every college has some people who lack civic sense and deny from taking responsibility. The washrooms are horrible and the maids don't clean them on time. The faucets are mostly broken and the ground usually has muddy water running from the spray poles.

Admission

I got my 4th preference on the list. English Honor's faculty in Gargi is far better than that of other Du colleges I opted for and I personally realized that the teachers might be rude and strict but their knowledge was something worth being proud of. The professors that teach me are very knowledgeable and experienced, they have taught in many other universities and have also held higher posts than what they are now but it's their choice of words that makes us so interested in the course.

Faculty

3

So I loved my Indian Literary Studies prof PG. We call her PG since most of our profs use acronyms for names. She is the best teacher and more like a friend. I hated a prof but I don't wanna name her, she teaches so good but her very strict and insulting nature is absolutely disliked by all of us. I hated the guardlady and the Nescafe man named Satya, he is rude and is always insulting the first year students.

Night Life

4

The surroundings of our campus is very dry with just a few high end cafes that are not affordable by everyone. It is a safe area for girls but their are no places to visit I haven't yet experienced anything wrong in the area and their is also a very safe way to walk from metro station to the college to save the expenses. The Gul mohar society is a perfectly safe route to stroll through.

Other Applied Colleges

Lady Shri Ram College for Women - [LSR] | Psychology hons

I got better opportunity to study English honours in Gargi so I opted for Gargi.

Placement Experience:

Placements are available in college, the drive is quite extensive, everyone is made aware of the choices and options and counselling is present too. It is from the third year, students are eligible to apply for placements. Companies and organisations take part such as Niti ayog, Times, Geostrata, Prajatantra foundation, etc. Those who desire usually work on their CVs, keep on doi internships and then get a placement. The packages are not that impressive to be honest.

The course is really very interesting. It keeps up with our expectations. Involves both practical and theoretical aspects to make sure that we are able to face the real world. Also, with the help of the guidance that we get from teachers we're able to ace both the aspects. The examinations also are based on applications, thus, helping us to enhance ourselves in all possibilities.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course itself is prestigious and is mostly opted for by people who plan either on preparing for the Civil Services or those who want to pursue academia. The course structure is framed in a manner that you don't just simply study history there, but you ingrain a critical viewpoint of a young historian. The faculty of History Hons. has some of the best Professors in the University, although you will in any course at any college find some teachers below your expectations, you don't have to bear them for more than 1 or 2 semesters. Passing the exams is not very difficult, but yes scoring above average is. If you get a GPA ranging from 6 to 7, you've performed fine. Above that is considered a Very good performance in Hons. courses of Social sciences at Delhi University. there are semester exams every 5- 6 months
