Course Curriculum Overview

4

Having an humanities background i wanted to go with either of my 12th subjects and political science was the most fascinating among all. Course curriculum of du was very well structured and relevant which interested me so I chose this course. It gives a deep understanding of politics and teaches u how everything in this world is related to politics , and also gives a thorough understanding of Indian constitution, laws, and our rights and many more things applicable to real world. Though sometimes it gets very theoretical so it can have more practical approach. Every semester we get to do research papers, conversation papers , book reviews , presentations, etc which sometimes get hectic with the classes and everything but it also gives us opportunity to learn that will help us further in masters and PhD. And semester exams are easy to clear with decent preparation.

Internships Opportunities

4

There are many intership opportunities given to lsr students and placement cell is pretty active here. There are other platforms and shared references as well from where we get infos and opportunities. We get to apply to many top companies like Amazon, McKinsey, Genpact, d.e. shaw, blinkit, boston consultancy, and even political science students also apply to these companies despite of their humanities background. And they also get intership opportunities from political consultancies like ipac, showtime, vote bridge India, etc. Stipend is usually between 10k to 1 lac .

Placement Experience

5

Lsr has a very high placement rate in all over du . Infact it has the highest placement package offered to any student in du till now which was 49 lacs. Students sit in placement in their final year and top companies come to lsr like Amazon, McKinsey, D.e.shaw, boston, Blackstone, accenture, etc. The highest package is 49 lacs and average package these companies offers is between 10 to 30 lacs. Most of the students who sit for placement are selected and those who didn't, they get placed off campus. I didn't sit for placements but I did get offer from a political consultancy after doing internship with them . However, i didn't have plan of doing job that time . I wanted to pursue higher studies so I went for masters.

Fees and Financial Aid

Considering it is a government college, the annual fee is quite decent. For first year I paid 15k , second year i paid 10k becz of Covid crisis they reduced the fee and for third i paid 15k . It didn't increase during my time . For other courses also the fee is usually between 10k to 25k max. Talking about the scholarship, some students do get it for their extraordinary performance and if they are really financially weak. But only few get it that too not every year they have these provisions.

Campus Life

5

Lsr has an annual fest called Tarang which usually happens in feb or March . It is very enjoyable and nicely conducted. Other than that 'noor 'which is diwali fest of our college is also organised before Diwali. And many more little events also happens in lsr all year. Lsr's library is also good and have all the books related to the courses and other than that too. Classrooms are old style but it does have smart screens installed in almost every classroom which is a good thing. Thought there is a need of air conditioning since Delhi's summer is a total torture. Sports facilities are fine only, like it has almost every sports and grounds for that but the equipments are old and few are broken too . They should improve in that area. There are many societies and clubs active in lsr which helps in holistic development of students.

Admission

I applied to Delhi University, banaras hindu university and vanasthali vidyapeeth but my first preference was du only that too the top colleges like lsr , hindu college, miranda house, kmc, ramjas. I wasn't rejected anywhere . I had decent marks so I cleared the cut offs of all the colleges (that year admission was based on 12th percentage) .Among these I chose lsr becz of its first ranking in political science course. Lsr is one of the best colleges for humanities and commerce courses and for political science it is number one. And it's brand value , high placements also made me choose it. Now since the introduction of new education policy, admission is completely based on common University entrance test(CUET) . Cutoffs are high for lsr . It's usually more than 700 for all the courses. The admission process is all smooth and entirely online.

Faculty

5

No doubt, lsr has one the best faculties in India. The professors are very well learned and carry a strong academic background . Some professors were really helpful in providing materials, solving doubts and even gave letter of recommendations very easily. In political science department, leslie sir, kanan sir, vagesh sir, nancy ma'am are best and others too. At the same time , there are some professors who you may not like at first because of their strictness and disciplined nature like snehil and rina ma'am but trust me eventually with time you will understand that this strictness will actually help you getting better in academics and will make you more disciplined and punctual. There are 6 /8 semesters in total. In my time it was only 6 semesters but since with introduction of new education policy there is an option to choose 3 years or 4 years program . You will have both internal and semester exams each semester. Internals mostly consists of class test, research paper, presentations depending on what professors give you. And semester exams are not very difficult, it's moderate but the marking in du is not very High for political science, it's usually between 6 to 8cgpa max. You can easily score a 7 with decent preparation and an 8 if you worked really hard. In lsr , i didn't get to see anyone failing their paper and those who even got an ER in any paper, they got it becz of being absent or due to health reasons or personal reasons. The course curriculum is relevant to what a political science student should study but it can have more practical approach .

Night Life

5

There are many places to hangout around the campus and even in the campus like Nescafe and the cafeteria usually closes around 6 and library is open for few more hours. Outside the campus, one can go to amar colony, block E , greater kailash to hangout. There are so many fancy restaurants and cafes are in gk like kori's, juggernaut, etc and in amar colony, there is hunger strike, zero degrees and delicious street food also. I haven't lived in hostel but as far as I remember it's curfew time was around 9 pm . It's is pretty safe to roam around in crowded places but sometimes it can get scary if u are roaming in national park area since it's very dark and empty at night. Other than that the surrounding areas are super cool to hangout.

Other Applied Colleges

Banaras Hindu University - [BHU] | Bachelor of Arts [BA] {Hons.} (Political Science)

Lsr is far better than bhu in terms of faculty, crowd, placements and overall exposure.

Placement Experience:

Placements are available in college, the drive is quite extensive, everyone is made aware of the choices and options and counselling is present too. It is from the third year, students are eligible to apply for placements. Companies and organisations take part such as Niti ayog, Times, Geostrata, Prajatantra foundation, etc. Those who desire usually work on their CVs, keep on doi internships and then get a placement. The packages are not that impressive to be honest.

The course is really very interesting. It keeps up with our expectations. Involves both practical and theoretical aspects to make sure that we are able to face the real world. Also, with the help of the guidance that we get from teachers we're able to ace both the aspects. The examinations also are based on applications, thus, helping us to enhance ourselves in all possibilities.

I got a seat in Ramjas College. It is a north-campus college. The infrastructure is too good compared to the remaining colleges. The teaching also going well but I faced some language problems. I'm from south India so I don't understand Hindi properly. But here mostly they teach in Hindi only and English is used very rarely.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course itself is prestigious and is mostly opted for by people who plan either on preparing for the Civil Services or those who want to pursue academia. The course structure is framed in a manner that you don't just simply study history there, but you ingrain a critical viewpoint of a young historian. The faculty of History Hons. has some of the best Professors in the University, although you will in any course at any college find some teachers below your expectations, you don't have to bear them for more than 1 or 2 semesters. Passing the exams is not very difficult, but yes scoring above average is. If you get a GPA ranging from 6 to 7, you've performed fine. Above that is considered a Very good performance in Hons. courses of Social sciences at Delhi University. there are semester exams every 5- 6 months
