Course Curriculum Overview

4

In this era of corrosive politics which believes in the wake of wear and tear, I personally believe the utility of my subject is quite exemplary. The curriculum is not mine or any of my professor's decision. It changes according to the shifts in power. The major focus of history honours' curriculum is just India, henceforth making it a viable option for people preparing for competitive exams, but somewhere, all of us studying the course know that the lack of interdisciplinarity and just focusing on its academic niche ingroups is necessary to be looked upon. Exams happen on a biannual basis calling these phenomenon as the end of one semester, which happens twice in each academic year.

Fees and Financial Aid

The year wise fees for my second year pursuing history honours at Hansraj College was around 30000. This fee is including all of the necessary charges and no surcharge of any kind was put after this. Considering all the other colleges of the university this is pretty much for history but this is a semi government college. There are many scholarships which you can apply for throughout the year but some of them are only available for science students. However there are other which can be filled out by all the students and comes in handy as it leads to almost 20-35% of fees reduction. All in all, fees personally, hasn't been one of the biggest issues I have faced with the college.

Campus Life

4

Hansraj's annual fest was a boondoggle the previous year as no funds were accumulated or assigned by and to the student body but the year before I joined in,I have heard quite a good things about it. The library is another thing that works wonder. If you are actually into studying,it is quite a boon for you-very well facilitated, top notch quality of infrastructure and plethora of handy books. Classrooms are well equipped with 2 or more air conditioners and fans.It gets a bit chaotic when you are assigned a small classroom but the strength of the class arrives with full capacity, with not enough seating in the rooms to even accomodate everyone, but that is a haley's comet(happens once in every 76 days). Hansraj, this year only rose to NIRF 3 that is apparently a by product of its dominance in extra curricular activities as well as sports. We have our annual inter department fest as well called Khelo Hansraj. There are quite a few number of societies with Hansraj dominating all over India in most of them ECAs,such as hindi debating or QUIZZING.

Admission

So,to get into Hansraj history:- 1.You need to fill in the form for CUET-UG and then appear for the exam which could be in any subject of your choice, until you have studied that subject in your intermediate(class 12th). 2.The colleges in DU would look for one language+3 core papers which you attempted during CUET. 3.Each exam would be of 250 marks with 4 worthy enough of making it to the final scoresheet.Hence the total would appear from a sum total of 1000. 4.A correct answer fetches you +5 points but negative marking is also there which gets you a -1.(my honest advice- if the case of scoring still persists.probability wise- it makes more sense to attempt all 50. P.S.-Cross checking yourself would be better). 4.Hansraj was my third preference with the first two being St. Stephens and Hindu College respectively. The cutoff for my academic year was 760/800 but last year it went as low as 875/1000 in the first round itself. 5.My score didn't meet the cutoff criteria for history honours at Hindu or Stephens because my score was 776/800 and the cutoff for Hindu was 777 and for Stephen's was 782. I had mere 14-15 preferences in total including all the college course combinations as I was pretty sure since the beginning what and where would I be in my worst case scenarios. But if you really want to join in contributing to the depleting air quality levels of DU,it is better to fill as many preferences you could.(the number goes even higher than 450-500).

In my department, i.e. history, the teacher to student ratio is 1:103 for my batch. Considering it's a college though, atleast 40 people are on leave mostly so it adjusts to around 1:60 honestly. I don't wanna name any of my faculties but everyone has their own pros and cons as a human. There are professors who know a lot but are not ready to put in efforts for the child who really yearns to learn. However there are others as well who know a lot, read a lot, make you read a lot and makes you word hard for your next intellectual ascension(for a college going student, it can't be anything more than feeling yourself more knowledgable today than yesterday).

Night Life

5

Campus hosts a number of colleges so it is rushy and ofcourse lively, which usually depends on your mood. There are a huge number of gyms, cafetarias and even libraries in the campus. Some of them are open 24*7 making it accessible at all the times at what I believe, not at very expensive prices. Hansraj boys' hostel has been temporarily shut down and undergone in construction due to infra. issues but the girls hostel is still running. There is Kamla Nehru ridge just around the campus, the mutiny memorial and even one of Ashokan pillar in the vicinity of the college.

Placement Experience:

Placements are available in college, the drive is quite extensive, everyone is made aware of the choices and options and counselling is present too. It is from the third year, students are eligible to apply for placements. Companies and organisations take part such as Niti ayog, Times, Geostrata, Prajatantra foundation, etc. Those who desire usually work on their CVs, keep on doi internships and then get a placement. The packages are not that impressive to be honest.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course is really very interesting. It keeps up with our expectations. Involves both practical and theoretical aspects to make sure that we are able to face the real world. Also, with the help of the guidance that we get from teachers we're able to ace both the aspects. The examinations also are based on applications, thus, helping us to enhance ourselves in all possibilities.

I got a seat in Ramjas College. It is a north-campus college. The infrastructure is too good compared to the remaining colleges. The teaching also going well but I faced some language problems. I'm from south India so I don't understand Hindi properly. But here mostly they teach in Hindi only and English is used very rarely.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course itself is prestigious and is mostly opted for by people who plan either on preparing for the Civil Services or those who want to pursue academia. The course structure is framed in a manner that you don't just simply study history there, but you ingrain a critical viewpoint of a young historian. The faculty of History Hons. has some of the best Professors in the University, although you will in any course at any college find some teachers below your expectations, you don't have to bear them for more than 1 or 2 semesters. Passing the exams is not very difficult, but yes scoring above average is. If you get a GPA ranging from 6 to 7, you've performed fine. Above that is considered a Very good performance in Hons. courses of Social sciences at Delhi University. there are semester exams every 5- 6 months
