College Review

Pros: College of National Importance, Decent placement, Good Hostels, Extracurricular Activities, Overall nice atmosphere. Cons: The Academic curriculum should be better, there should be more practical classes than theoretical, The exam pattern.

It is a 4 year course. In the first year we have been taught different basic subjects irrespective of depertments, and from the 2nd year only the departmental classes are there. There are 2 semesters in each year total of 8 semesters, and there is a mid semester examination before each semester. So there is an examination in every 2 month.

There is a decent placement opportunities for B.Tech students. Every year around 80% of people gets placed in Electrical Department, which is higher for depertments like CSE an IT, as many as 90-100 company come every year for placement with an average package of 5-6 LPA for EE department. Internship is mandatory for pre final year students although College provides internship opportunites but that is not as good as placement scenario.

There are different events and seminars and training programme happen through out the year in different departments, also there are different Technical and cultural clubs in the colege which organizes many events in the college.

There is a variable fees structure as per annual income of student's family. If the income is below 1 Lakh rupees per year the semester fees is around 7000. If the annual income is in between 1 lakh to 5 lakh the fees is around 30000. If the income is above 5 lakh, the semester fees is around 70000. As there is income based fees structure it is feasible for most of the students, There is an additional hostel and mess fees for Hostel accommodation.

There are some scholarship and loan facilities in the college. SBI and other banks give student loan for very low interest rate for the students, There is a branch of SBI iside the college campus which students can avail for fees payment. There is an OPJEMS scholarship given by Jindal group for the top 3 students of each depertment in each year.

Most of the labs are in quiet good condition but some specific Labs which have been there since 1960 lacks maintenance, There are 2 technical and 1 cultural fest in the college every year, students participate in those fests very enthusiastically. The sports culture is also quite good here, any sports is mandatory in first year of the college, Students can practice for Inter NIT sport competition in the college ground under the guidance of different coaches and also there is a Gym for students and a NSS and NCC team of college. And moreover professors encourage these things.

Yes, I have opted for hostel as hostels are mandatory in our college. I can safely say that Hostels are quite good, The food is better than most other college hostels. In different years we have been alloted to different hostels and they are really decent.

There is a specific alumni outreach program in college. The senior students help in many ways if it is academically or placement wise. Reunion of different previous batches happen and theyotivate the current students and give answer to their queries regarding to their fields.

After the 10+2 exam, like most other students in India, I also gave the various engineering entrances, in the JEE MAINS examination of 2016 I got a score of 165, and a decent rank which helped me to get an admission in EE stream in NIT DURGAPUR, a college of National Importance.

As there are various depertments in our college, I only can tell about the professors of our depertment. The faculties are medium to good, they are very knowledgable persons but often lack in teaching quality.
