Remarks

One should be lucky to spend their MBBS Life in KoIMS.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

MBBS is a five and half year course, divided into three phases - I, II, III. And 6 months = 1 term. Exams will be of two kinds - internal examination and external examination(University exam). Pass percentage here is 50%. To give an external exam, a student should have atleast 35% as an average in two internals in every subject (both theory and practicals) Phase I (pre clinical) - 1st year (duration - 1 year, therefore 2 terms). In this year, there will be 3 subjects - Anatomy, physiology, biochemistry. All three will have both theory and practicals. In external exam, there will be two papers for Anatomy and physiology each. Maximum marks for each paper is 100. And one for biochemistry. Phase II (para clinical) - 2nd year(duration - 1½ years, so 3 terms) 4 subjects - Pathology, pharmacology, microbiology and forensic medicine. From 2nd year we'll be posted in several departments of hospital, like surgery, OBG, general medicine, orthopedic, etc. So we'll be orientation to 3rd and 4th year subjects. We'll be posted in OPDs, OTs and Wards. In community medicine posting we'll be posted in some areas of City to do some studies and will be taken to field visits. During postings we'll be guided by our professors, pg and ug seniors. Phase III (clinical) - 3rd and 4th year (Duration - 1 year each) 3rd year - 3 subjects (Ophthalmology, ENT, PSM) 4th year - 4 subjects (General medicine, OBG, Surgery and pediatrics) In these two years also we'll be posted in several departments. Then there we should should do internship for 1 year.

Placement Experience

4.5

Medical students after completing MBBS will have several options. But most of them prepare for PG entrance. Placement in Medical colleges implies getting good ranks in a PG entrance. As our college still doesn't have any passed out batch, we don't have any analysis. The first batch in our college are going through their final year. Next year they'll be interns posted in several departments. They will be working there like a doctor but they have to complete their internship to become a doctor.

College Events

4.5

First event in our academic year will be Ganesha chaturti, where we'll collect money from students and staff. And we'll be having several competitions. There will be Pooja every evening. On the last day i.e visarjane, we'll dance, throw colors and enjoy. 2. Kannada rajyothsava - it'll be in November, organised by 2nd year students. There will be several competitions related to our culture and one big day for all the programs and prize distribution. We'll select a theme every year and decorate accordingly. This event will be funded by our college as they will have collected kannada Sangha fee from us during time of admission. 3. Holi. 4. Cultural fest (college day) - The most awaited. Preparations for this will only take several days.It will be for 8 days with different dress code themes. There will be several competitions amongst batches in the evening. One big day for prize distribution n programs. 5. Sports day - competitions will be between batches and we'll be provided with jersey 6. We'll celebrate several international days also.

Fee Structure And Facilities

As it is a government college, the fee structure is feasible compared to private colleges. Our college fee includes fee like tuition fee, cultural fee, sports fee, Kannada Sangha, library fee, helinet fee, alumni association fee, digital library fee, etc. We'll pay in the affiliated bank with receipt provided by our college. Our college has extra transportation fee as we will be taken to hospital by bus.

Fees and Financial Aid

I have opted for a scholarship, named VIDYASIRI, which is provided by our state government to OBC students. We apply it every year and we'll get back almost the fee we paid. The scholarship amount will be sent to our college account and our college will transfer it to our account. But the food n accommodation scholarship will be directly credited into our accounts from government.

Campus Life

5

We spend almost whole time in our campus itself, our campus is isolated from the city and everybody stays in hostel. We go out only to buy things or to go for a trip with friends as Madikeri is known for tourism. We play in our campus or we go out to a field inside the city, as our campus is situated in a hill. Gender ratio depends on the rank list of that particular year. In our college on, on an average 60% are boys n 40% are girls. We'll be having competitions or co-curricular activities during Kannada Rajyothsava, college fest and sports day.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

Yes. There are separate hostel for boys and girls located in the campus itself. Our campus is situated in a hill. Almost every student stays in hostel. One floor will have one batch students. And number of students per room will be 3. Each room has attached bath room and Each floor has a common room. We can convert it into a gym or study room or recreation room. Each student will be provided a cart, a study table and a chair. Our hostel has mess in the ground floor. We have a very beautiful scenery from our hostel.

Alumni/Alumna

Seniors here are too supportive and unlike other government medical colleges there is no ragging here. When it comes to organizing an event there should be a nice co-ordination. We'll get to know many seniors through this. Major role where seniors play in a medical student's life is during posting and guidance. We are lucky to have such great seniors here.

Admission

Becoming a doctor was my passion. So I had to give NEET UG to enter into a medical college. After getting my results, I had to participate in online counseling where I had to give my option entry. In my options entry, I had to give a list of colleges where preferred colleges on the top and in decreasing order. After I give my option entry, I will be allotted a seat according to my rank. This will happen in 2 rounds. I was allotted KoIMS, as I had put that in 11th option. There were some other colleges competing for 11th position. But I chose KoIMS because of it has best faculties and has highest students pass percentage. More over the environment is amazing, which matters the most. Located amidst a beautiful nature and having best professors is all you need. It might be new college and have less severe cases in hospital, but what matters most is how much we are dedicated.

Faculty

5

I chose this college because of the faculties and the environment. We have the best faculties here. Every department has a HOD or professor, Two associate professor, 3-5 assistant professor. They should have done PG in that subject they are teaching. The higher post will be on experience basis. We'll also have few tutors in every department whose minimum qualification must be MBBS or M.Sc in that subject. They'll be selected through an interview.

Course Curriculum Overview:

curriculum is designed to be highly relevant and comprehensive for modern medical practice.Early Clinical Exposure is One of the strongest aspects of the curriculum is introducing students to patients in their very second year. The final year of the curriculum—the Compulsory Rotatory Residential Internship (CRRI) is effective it prepares students for the high-pressure environment of Indian healthcare, making them very capable of handling emergencies and outpatient departments (OPD ). Students feel that lectures are still too focused on passive PowerPoint presentations.Rigorous schedule, integrating "Life Skills" or "Stress Management" modules more formally into the foundation course would be helpful. The university exams (RGUHS) are generally fair but require a very high level of descriptive writing and practical precision.
