Remarks

The admission process starts with filling up the online application form of the University of Delhi that was released between April-June. The application form is released on the official website of Delhi University is www.du.ac.in, there you have to fill in all the basic details about you and attach documents like mark sheets, caste certificate (if any) etc. After the declaration of your 12th class result, Delhi University releases cut-offs for all courses in different colleges. Then you look for your target college and course, if the percentage of your best 4 subjects matches with the course cut-off you can apply for admission. This is a serious and delicate step, so you have to be careful and considerate about what and where you want to study. After applying to a college, your application is checked and verified by 3 officials from the college, if everything is correct and your application is accepted. Then you have to pay the fee and your admission is confirmed.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The Philosophy Department of Hindu College is enormously talented and vibrant. The faculty includes god-like professors such as Dr Ananya Barua, Dr Devasia M. Antony, Dr Rekha Basu, Dr Sumit and many more. They are the best professors you can have to understand Philosophy. I chose Philosophy because I had an interest in spirituality, though, Philosophy is much more than spirituality but a little similar. Philosophy enhances one intellect and the way of seeing life. With Philosophy, you grow as a person, a person of mind and examine each step and the fold of the life around you. A career in Philosophy is still a confined area but I think Philosophy is much more than having a career, it's a way of life. The faculty is very kind and consists of great people so you'll be fine. They all are PhDs and gold medalists. Exams are held at the end of each semester and it's easy to score more than 7 SGPA if you pay attention to the lectures and study the texts.

Internships Opportunities

0.5

The Internship cell keeps you updated with various internships available on board and with the general skill set you can avail those internships for your experience but there aren't any placements or internships specifically in the Philosophy Department.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees for BA Philosophy Honours is around 18500 per year. I think it's a genuine ask as long as you're having offline classes. I'm still in second year so I don't know about Jobs etc. but you can still apply for government scholarships if you pass the eligibility. You can go for a MA in Philosophy to foreign universities, if you score well you can even get a 100% scholarship and professors are generous enough to provide you with LoRs if your performance is average in college.

Campus Life

5

In the Philosophy Department, we have our annual fest called Panathenea. The college's annual fest is named Mecca. The philosophy department also has its talk/lecture series called Samvaad where renowned academicians from different parts of India and even International universities are invited to deliver lectures on different themes and topics. The library has a diverse section for Philosophy and all other books too. You can find everything and issue it according to your choice and need. The classrooms and spacious with proper lighting, ventilation, desks and a green chalkboard. Philosophy's classroom is in the newly built new academic block so everything is even newer and clean, including the washrooms. The campus life is vibrant and lively, with a big sports complex, campus and auditorium, it's so good to walk around and enjoy the environment with friends. There are many societies you can try to be a part of according to your hobby. Like, Alankaar- the Indian music society, Ibtida- Dramatic.

The course curriculum is a bit too theoretical and less practical. The exams in the college takes places every month which are seasonals and are for internal marking and then we have semester exams in every 6 months which accounts for the external marking.

Placement Experience:

Placements are available in college, the drive is quite extensive, everyone is made aware of the choices and options and counselling is present too. It is from the third year, students are eligible to apply for placements. Companies and organisations take part such as Niti ayog, Times, Geostrata, Prajatantra foundation, etc. Those who desire usually work on their CVs, keep on doi internships and then get a placement. The packages are not that impressive to be honest.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course is really very interesting. It keeps up with our expectations. Involves both practical and theoretical aspects to make sure that we are able to face the real world. Also, with the help of the guidance that we get from teachers we're able to ace both the aspects. The examinations also are based on applications, thus, helping us to enhance ourselves in all possibilities.

I got a seat in Ramjas College. It is a north-campus college. The infrastructure is too good compared to the remaining colleges. The teaching also going well but I faced some language problems. I'm from south India so I don't understand Hindi properly. But here mostly they teach in Hindi only and English is used very rarely.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course itself is prestigious and is mostly opted for by people who plan either on preparing for the Civil Services or those who want to pursue academia. The course structure is framed in a manner that you don't just simply study history there, but you ingrain a critical viewpoint of a young historian. The faculty of History Hons. has some of the best Professors in the University, although you will in any course at any college find some teachers below your expectations, you don't have to bear them for more than 1 or 2 semesters. Passing the exams is not very difficult, but yes scoring above average is. If you get a GPA ranging from 6 to 7, you've performed fine. Above that is considered a Very good performance in Hons. courses of Social sciences at Delhi University. there are semester exams every 5- 6 months
