What Students Say
Likes
- The faculty, they are well deserved and qualified in every department and are very supportive.
- The hostels, they are quite spacious and have a beautiful view.
- The campus, though it is small compared to other colleges, but whatever it is, it's neat and clean and green.
Dislikes
- The campus, it's too small and over half is occupied by the residents. So there is not much to explore in the campus.
- The education system. Although the faculty is good but the system and curriculum is bad. You need to change it as it is outdated.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose the Mechanical Engineering course because I had some interest in machines and AI. Moreover, I had a slight edge over coding too, but in machine learning. As per my year, there are 15 faculty members in the department for 192 students. The faculty of the Mechanical department is well-qualified and experienced. They hold a well-known knowledge about the topic they teach and teach the topic in a proper manner as expected. They clarify the doubts of the students whenever asked to and are supportive of the students who are dedicated towards research and other stuff. The term exams are taken on the time they shall be providing enough time for students to get prepared for them. Although the course is a bit harder as compared to other branches, if studied properly one can crack the exams easily with flying colours.
Internships Opportunities
The companies that come here for internships are NATWEST, Microsoft, John Dheere, etc. These companies provide internship opportunities preferably for girls and boys. The core companies don't show much interest though. The stipend offered by these companies is around 1.25 per month by Microsoft for the role of software engineer, web development, etc.
Placement Experience
The placement here is quite good. As the college was built in 1960 it has great alumni connections. Students start to get internship offers from the 5th to 6th semester while getting them placed in 7-8th semester. Some of the companies visiting here are Microsoft, Hyundai, reliance, etc. With an offer of over 50lpa. The highest package of the college was 71lpa last year and the lowest was around 7.5lpa. About 88% of students from my department got placed last year. I was thinking about getting into a tech company through college campus placements, it's quite hard though but getting a job is my target.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee structure is quite simple. You have to pay the fees per semester. I had some flexibility in fees due to reservation and annual family income. One can apply for scholarships inside the campus. There are various to apply to, the college administration keeps on sending emails about those. Overall my fees per annum are around 100,000. After all, the college is good enough from a fee point of view and as compared to private colleges.
Campus Life
The annual fest of the college is Aarohan which is conducted at the end of the year. This is the techno-management fest of the college. Moreover the annual cultural fest of the college is Recstasy which is conducted in eh month of February. It is north India's second largest cultural fest. The library here is quite good, contains most of the books related to the studies, but I would be happier if it contains some other kind of books too. It contains a daily newspaper, abundant reading space and magazines for one to read. The classrooms on the campus are quite big enough to hold all the students with air conditioning and modern teaching facilities. Has sufficient windows and other facilities too. There are two grounds on the campus named Ovals and Lords, with many sports courts like badminton, tennis, basketball, volleyball, etc. with a gymnasium. There are many clubs in the college, namely Enteract, the official dramatics club of NIT Durgapur.
Admission
I was admission to this college by qualifying JEE mains examination. One can find the application form, fees and all other details when they will be admitted to this college through JOSAA/CSAB counselling and through the official college website. As far as my reservation benefits, I got a reservation for my OBC category and also for my family's annual income. The reservation overall saves a lot of money and all of these details can be found on the college website. The admission process could be a bit simpler if the college was admitted without counselling. The process of counselling took a lot of time.
