Course Curriculum Overview
Approximately one teacher for every 6 students in the Mechanical Engineering department at NIT Durgapur. The faculty members are highly qualified and have great expertise in their fields. Both board work method and projector are used for teaching. A semester consists of Continuous Assessments and mid-term and end-term examinations. Questions are generally asked from the topics covered in the class.
Internships Opportunities
Currently involved in the modeling of six degrees of freedom(DOF) Bipedal robot under the guidance of one of the professors of our department. The walking gait of the robot is continuously monitored by simulating the model in Simulink using Simscape Multibody.
Placement Experience
After 6th semester students are eligible for campus placements, provided they do not have an active backlog. There were more than 700 offers and more than 600 students were placed in the academic year 2022-23. The highest package was 70 LPA and the average CTC was 13.64 LPA.
Fees and Financial Aid
The total fee for a semester is Rs 76,300. However, the tuition fees can be waived according to the annual family income. If a student's family income is less than 1 lakh per year, he/she will get 100% off on tuition fees, and if his/her income is less than 5 lakh but more than 1 lakh, 2/3rds of tuition fees will be waived.
Campus Life
NIT Durgapur has one of the most beautiful campuses among the NITs. There is enough scope for the students to explore their social life apart from their studies. There are more than 20 clubs and societies in the college. For sports activities, there are two big grounds named "The Ovals" and "Lords" at NIT Durgapur. All the classrooms at the New Academic Building (NAB) are air-conditioned. Our college hosts the second-largest Techno-Management Festival in eastern India, Aarohan, and Recstacy, our cultural festival.
Hostel Facilities
Generally, rooms are allotted for 3 students. 3 beds, 3 chairs, and 3 tables are provided for in the room. Meal quality does not remain constant in the mess. Hostel registration is done online, and mess fees and hostel caution money must be paid.
Admission
I took admission through the JEE exam. The JEE exam is usually held twice a year and it's application form can be found on the NTA website. The application fee structure is Rs 1000 for male candidates and Rs 800 for female candidates. After the results are out the admission takes place based on the rank of the candidate. The cut-off marks vary from year to year.
