Course Curriculum Overview
I am doing my B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering branch is a branch of science I was passionate about from my school days and about automobile engineering which is very closely related to mechanical engineering. The faculty-to-student ratio of our Mechanical engineering department is about 1:15, which is a very healthy ratio. The faculties in this department are all highly qualified and are extremely knowledgeable in their fields and they are also avid researchers. Most of them are quite good in their teaching and maintaining a class atmosphere. During a semester we have a mid-term exam of 25 marks at about the midpoint of the semester and an End-term exam of 60 marks at the end of the semester and we have continuous assessment (CA) of 15 marks for each subject also.
Internships Opportunities
The internship season generally starts from the 3rd year in our college. During this time different companies visit, and students with no active backlogs and preferably no supplementary are eligible to sit for these opportunities. In certain cases, there are also CGPA criteria, so your CGPA is also very important. But sometimes there is diversity hiring from certain companies, where certain deserved candidates suffer.
Placement Experience
In our college, the process of internship starts from 3rd year itself and the placement process starts from 4th year. Among the number of students that apply for the placement process, about 80% of them get a job offer from the companies present.
Fees and Financial Aid
In our college per semester fees are about 75k -80k, these fees comprise tuition fees, examination fees, lab fees, computer fees, etc. This fee amount is for open category students only. Then there are the mess and hostel caution money for the semester which varies from 20k to 25k for all irrespective of reservation quotas. There are also many scholarship schemes available and information can be found in the institute's official website.
Campus Life
In our college, there are mainly two types of fests, the Technological fest called "AAROHAN" and the cultural fest called "RECSTACY". AAROHAN is generally held in the first week of March every year and RECSTACY is generally held during the first week of April every year.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel rooms are generally on a shared basis. Generally, rooms are shared among 3 students. In each room, there is a bed, table, and study table for every student in the room. It also has a cupboard or a similar arrangement for each student in the hostel. The hostel meal quality is average. The quality is at its highest at the start of a semester it keeps on decreasing as time passes.
Admission
Admission to NIT Durgapur is through the JEE Mains B.Tech exam followed by the JOSAA and CSAB counselling rounds. In 2021 there were 6 rounds for JOSAA Counselling followed by 3 rounds of CSAB Counselling. Information about these counselling procedures and dates can be found on the JOSAA website, so it is recommended for the candidates the check the websites regularly for updates. As it is an NIT there are home state quotas for students of that state. The cutoff for different branches varies for different years and this information can also be checked on the JOSAA website.
