Dislikes
- The college rules are very strict and they often don't allow you to explore the college freely especially in first year.
- Internet facility are sometimes not that good and sometimes the internet speed falls down below usable limit. It hampers the study quality especially during exams.
- The campus size isn't that big and this lacks the exploration area and the buildings of the laboratories and departments are very congested.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose this course because the prospect of chemical engineering in the upcoming days is huge, especially considering the upcoming nanotechnology, biofuel implementation, Lithium Ion Battery Technology, and other research fields. We have 80 students in our class and 16 teachers in our course. Every teacher has PhD from an internationally reputed university and the way of teaching is very good. There are 3 exams Midsemester, End Semester, and Class Assignments. Midsemester occurs 1.5 months after the course starts and the End semester occurs 4 months after the semester begins.
Internships Opportunities
Various government and private companies offer internships such as TCS, Infosys, Samsung, Microsoft, JP Morgan, SAIL, Durgapur Steel Plant, Durgapur Chemicals Limited, and WBPDCL. Various students go to various abroad institutes and reputed National Institutes for their internship and project work.
Placement Experience
Around the end of the 6th semester and 7th to 8th semester, students become eligible. Reputed companies like Microsoft, Samsung, PWC, Haldia Petrochemicals, Bharat Petroleum, Centuryply, HSBC, JP Morgan, TCS, etc. have come for placement. The average package is between 11-12 lakhs. Around 85% of students got placed this year.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees don't hike it doesn't vary year to year. The fee for a year is about Rs.156000 approximately for 2 semesters. For financially weaker background families loans can be easily availed as well as the SVMCM scholarship, OASIS Scholarship, and Student Scholarship ( Only for West Bengal Residents).
Campus Life
The Central Library consists of many books by famous authors from every department and the books are well maintained. The library also provides regular newspapers and weekly and monthly journals. Every classroom has individual desks with AC attached in every class. There are both blackboards and Projectors fitted inside the classrooms. You can get many sports like Football, Cricket, table tennis, Badminton, Volleyball, Basketball, table tennis, Athletics etc with respective courts and places to practice.
Hostel Facilities
3/4 bedded rooms are provided in hostels along with 2 fans, 3 cupboards, tables, chairs, and a study lamp. The hostel in the 12th floor and each floor has enough bathrooms for the students alongside 24×7 hot water and electricity supply. The hostels are cleaned regularly and maintenance is done quite well. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner are provided by the hostel. The quality of the food is good and there are both veg and nonveg options every day. There is also a Special Dinner where the mess will give special food items once a week.
Admission
Eligibility of the Course: You need to pass class 12 from a PCM background from any recognized higher secondary board. The minimum percentage you must score in the class 12 board examination is 75% to sit in the JEE MAINS through which you can get admission to this college. Application fees and application dates: NTA releases the application form twice a year for this examination. As per the cutoff, you need to score at least 95 percentile (General),90 percentile(OBC),93 percentile(EWSss.), and above 85 percentile (SC and ST) to get a branch in this college. You need to apply to JOSAA for the counseling process. The JEE MAINS exam dates often fall very close to the Class 12 board exam so I hope this issue can be resolved.
