Entrance Preview

I got admission in NIT Durgapur by my performance in JEE Mains(140) and class 12 Board marks(95%). Though I was also getting Metallurgy in Jadhavpur University through WBJEE but I chose NIT Dgp as it is just 20 km from my home. There was no interview process. You can also change your branch after 1st year by scoring good CGPA.(>9)

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

I studied b.tech in Electrical Engineering. The course in the college is quite good and I may argue that this is the best core branch in NIT Dgp in terms of placements and course. You will be asked for a research work in final year in which huge importance is given. If you are interested in research, the Profs are always there for help.

Internships Opportunities

Negligible chances of getting interns in the companies that visit for placements. One cannot expect more than 20 to 30 interns each year

Placement Experience

2.5

Key companies which visit the National Institute of Technology campus for placements are like TATA steel, TATA motors,Vedanta,Microsoft,Amazon,Reliance,,IBM Oracle etc. The average salary package is Rs. 5 lakh pa. The placements for IT & CS are very good. All most all are placed from these branches every year. Average %age of placement is nearly 70%.

College Events

3

We have some really awesome technical, techno-management, cultural fests organized by the clubs through out the year. Recstacy and Aarohan are major ones. Students from all over India attend these fests. Apart from these students here celebrate holy, diwali, saraswati-puja to-gAther very well.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Per year course fee is approx 130000 for General, 90000 for OBC, NIL FOR SC/ST, excluding hostel fee which is around 35000. Institute Scholarships(Income based full and half waiver)), OPJEMS (Talent based mainly for toppers). If a students is very poor such that he/she cant afford to pay the mess fee even after full repayment of tuition fee by getting any scholarship then there is need of loan. It is very easy to get the loan.

Fees and Financial Aid

It is very easy to get the loan.

Hostel Facilities

1.5

You have to live in hostel as it is compulsory. There are no PGs. During 1st year there are 4 person in each room. It does not cause any problem. Its quite big. During 2nd year there are 3 person in each room. During 4th year you get single room. You have to pay nearly 40000 per year for hostel and mess. Food is very bad, really bad. You all get is half-cooked fish, unpeeled potatoes in hostel mess. The jhhops owners, food vendors in college saved me from starving :P.

Alumni/Alumna

Subash Menon - co-founder and ex-ceo of the Subex and Founder of Kivar Holdings of which he is current chairmain. Pankaj Baliga -Vice President -Tata Consultancy services Nilotpal Ray Managing Director, Indian Iron and Steel company

Exam Structure

Overall in each semester one has to sit for one mid sem exam for each subject(5) worth 20 marks, 2-3 practical exams with viva and one final end sem exam worth 70 marks for each subject. Its really good as for 2-3 months there is no exam pressure in college as there is no regular exams.

Faculty

3.5

Many of the professors in EE department don't have PHD. Many doesn't have their concepts clear let alone research. Profs may teach fine. Just fine. Not at a level of an NIT. All the labs are time-pass, they teach you nothing but how to become a baddass in cheating and copying. I see in many departments very few profs do good research work and teach up to the level of an NIT.

Placement Experience:

The campus placements happen in final year of the course. There is a well established placement cell to conduct the on-campus placements. Many well renowned companies visit our college namely Microsoft, Google, TI, TSL, PWC, ICICI, ABG. L&T, etc. The highest package was 50LPA and the average was around 9LPA. Over 90% students got placed from across every department and details of the placement is also available in the college official website. I have gotten a job from the on-campus drive to a core company.

The placements of our college are below average. Studies for placement are more or less relevant from second semester. companies like tcs, amazon etc do visit our campus however very few are selected with package above 4-5 LPA. Most of the students seek out for higher studies and that's my plan too.

Placement Experience:

After the 6th semester, the students are eligible for placements. Mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, Capgemini, etc visit every year and pick up 80-100 students per company. Other companies like Amazon, Thoughtworks, Etc also visit the college. The highest package offered by our college is 15LPA by Thoughtworks. Every year around 75-80% of students get placed on campus. I plan to get a good job work for 2-3 years and then apply for Masters. Overall the placement is very nice in this college.
