Entrance Preview

I wanted to do my graduation in Petroleum Engineering which I was motivated towards by my uncle who is also a petroleum engineer. I got positive feedback about the university due to which I opted for it. The proximity of college to Delhi was also one of the reasons.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course curriculum is quite exhaustive. All the petroleum concepts are covered in detail. Core subjects are added to the curriculum from the fourth semester which includes drilling, reservoir, and production engineering. Last year is mainly devoted to research projects.

Internships Opportunities

Yes, the college provides internship in the third in companies like Schlumberger, Halliburton, ONGC, etc. There is no stipend in public companies but some private companies provide a stipend of around 15 thousand rupees. The overall experience is quite informative.

Placement Experience

4.5

UPES has a very active placement cell and provides job opportunities to all and placements to around 90 % of the students. The package can range from 3 Lacs to 25 Lacs based on the company and profile of the candidate. Recently a lot of computer science companies have started visiting.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fees are expensive. The university increments the fees by 5% every year. When I passed out in 2015 the average fees per semester for me came out to be around 1 lac per semester which is quite expensive from a student standpoint. The fees is low for management courses though.

Fees and Financial Aid

No, loan facility will have to be availed by the students on their own. There is no scholarship involved provided by the university.

Campus Life

4

Upes campus is one of the most beautiful campuses of India located in the picturesque location of Pondha valley which also witnesses snowfall sometimes. The gender ratio is around 1.5 to 1. The labs are in good condition and there are ample facilities for sports like cricket, basketball, football etc. Competitions are organized around the year.

Hostel Facilities

4

The college has one in campus hostel for boys which is not enough to accommodate all the students of the university so many students stay in private hostels and as paying guests near the campus. The food in the college hostel is good and hygienic but I cannot comment on private hostels though.

Alumni/Alumna

The alumni network is maintained by the placement cell of the university and they keep calling alumni for interactions with students and there are also alumni meetups organized across India for building network.

Exam Structure

There are two rounds of the exam -mid-semester exam and end semester exam and the final result is cumulative of both of them. The exam is conducted on consecutive days. End semester exam is given more weightage in terms of final assessment and includes the entire syllabus of the semester.

Admission

There is an entrance exam conducted for class 12 passouts called UPESEAT which comprises Physics,Chemistry,Maths,General Studies and Logical Reasoning. The preference for choosing the course is based on merit list of this examination. There are multiple exams for engineering and management aspirants.

Faculty

4.5

The core faculty is very experienced and well versed in the subjects. Most of them are ex-ONGC, ex Oil India employees and provide a very good exposure to the industrial applications as well. Their experience in the industry proved very useful for us as I look back.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum is highly relevant, focusing on practical knowledge for real-world prep, though more hands-on application and updated content would strengthen it. Exams occur 6 times yearly; they are tough but fair for the course.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose this course because of its affordability and the teaching quality of this college is good . They helps in choosing the real life application based projects . Teaching methods are impressive but they don't provide notes . We have make notes by attending class regularly. Frequency and timings of exams are of 3 hrs. For each subject . Difficulty level is moderate and students can prepare it well in the gap days also .
