Course Curriculum Overview
It is well structured, with first year primarily covering the prerequisites of further courses which are continuation of what we learn in 12th, and here in NIT Durgapur, first years are not divided according to branch, they have combined classrooms and syllabus, with sections divided according to roll number. The branch separation starts at second year where you'll be pursuing the course you joined. Professors are sometimes old school, but it's the same situation everywhere . Some of the curriculum is outdated but they are revamping it now.
Internships Opportunities
You can work with department professors on projects which always happen throughout the year or sit for campus internships. Roles range from SDE to analyst to other roles related to branch. You need a good resume and project portfolio to get a tech internship, its very competitive.
Placement Experience
Students can get internship from 4th semester itself. But major internships start from 5th semester and campus placement at 7th semester. The companies coming here are at par with other similar ranking nits , with Microsoft, jp Morgan, wells Fargo etc visiting our campus
Fees and Financial Aid
The tuition fee per year is around 150000, with additional 40000 for hostel fees , which is decent enough compared with other IIT's anNIT's. There aren't any partime jobs you can do in the campus itself, but there are many scholarships available to the eligible candidates.
Campus Life
Nit durgapur has aarohan the annual technical fest and Recstacy , the annual cultural fest are one of the biggest in eastern India. There are 20+ clubs and 10+ other fests organised by specific clubs that are equally grand. There is no restrictions on having fun memories. The library only has academic books which is a deal breaker for a fiction enthusiastic like me. There are many sports here we even won interNIT football tournament. There is no swimming pool here.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel is good in first 2 years, then you'll get old Hostel for 3rd and 4th year. In food everything has potato , a west Bengal thing maybe. But it tastes okay, and hygienic mess . Hostel registration is done at the reception of Hostel building every year at respective Hostel
Admission
The admission is purely based on JEE mains entrance exam and JOSAA counselling, the cutoff for CS is quite competitive here, which can be accessed through the josaa portal of previous year cutoffs. There are quota for home state and also category wise like SC ST OBC EWS and PWD
