Course Curriculum Overview
I am very interested in the field of Robotics and Robotics is actually a fine discipline of Mechanical Engineering and hence, I was sincerely attracted to this course. Durgapur is basically a Steel City and a hub of Mechanical Engineering and the institute located just on the opposite side of the CSIR - Mechanical Engineering, has a huge repute because of its Mechanical Engineering branch - it being the second largest and one of the best branches since 1960. The faculty-to-student ratio is normal and I believe, it is not much of a difficulty since tutorial classes are organised quite frequently - once a week. All the faculty members are well qualified and have a PhD degree in their respective branches. The teaching is okayish - not something to feel great about, but the faculty members are helpful. The term exams are twice a semester - Mid Sem and End Sem and they are not that much easy to pass despite the better grading system.
Internships Opportunities
NIT Durgapur provides internships in its various departments with a stipend of Rs. 3000 and a registration of Rs 1000. It also provides internships at Microsoft as SDE with Rs 50000-80000 as stipend with pre placement offer opportunities.
Placement Experience
The students become eligible to sit for the placements during the course of the 7th semester and a variety of companies visit the campus ranging from Microsoft to LnT, Steradian. Highest package was offered to a Mechanical Engineering student of 70LPA for a role of SDE at JPMC London. The overall average package is 13.1LPA and the branch average package is around 9-10 LPA for core branches and 20-21LPA for circuit branches. Around 80-85% secure proper placements during the placement year. After getting my degree, I would definitely pursue higher studies from a foreign university.
Fees and Financial Aid
The cost of studying is roughly 1.13L for first semester and 82K for each of the remaining semesters upto 8th. There has been a fee hike of around 6000 - 8000 rupees roughly. There is a scholarship cell here which provides scholarship for economically weaker students and sometimes people do get paid internships from here. The median package of 11.42 LPA actually accounts for how well the placements are.
Campus Life
The life at the campus is good - not too great though, first yearites have terrible restrictions. The Annual Fest "Aarohan" is conducted, which is the second largest technical fest in eastern India and the month of conduction is not known to me. The library is vast and the number of books provided there is uncountable ranging over books from each discipline from each branch. The annual fest "Recstacy" is conducted March every year and a huge budget is set for it. I The classrooms are well - equipped with chairs and the usage of blackboard and projector screens is preferred. They are air-conditioned and are huge. Sports and Extra - Curricular activities are well propagated with the Inter NIT Sports Competition and even sports and exrtra curricular are included in the main curriculum. Yet, I would say, the campus is not well equipped with sports facility. A lot can be improved There are vast number of clubs - some of them include SAE NIT DGP, Literary Circle, IEEE, Prakriti, CCA, EDC.
Hostel Facilities
With respect to Hall 11, In the room, we are provided with an almirah, a bed, and a table per person. There is a night lamp for the students and there are two fans and two tube lights for the students. The meal quality is good with a special dinner on Sundays and Wednesdays. The Registration process of the Hostel is followed by the registration online and we have to pay 24000 rupees I believe it is quite affordable considering the span of time they take the money for.
Admission
Anyone who scored above 75% in 12th board and above 96 percentile in JEE are eligible for this course. The entrance exam to get admission to this institute is infamously called JEE Main. The admission process was supervised by the JoSAA and CSAB counseling. After the successful completion of 6 rounds of JoSAA and 2 special rounds of CSAB. After the final allotment of the branch based on the CRL in this exam, we were asked to upload the required documents for online reporting. I, being a general candidate, was required to pay Rs. 36,100 for the admission process. After the online reporting and verification, we were provided with a Bonafide Certificate and an Online Enrollment Certificate. Then we had to pay the mess fees (INR. 5000) and Hostel fees (INR. 19000) for the Hall - 11 Hostel Benefits. Then the physical reporting was overseen on 17th August 2023 when we were alloted the rooms. The required procedure for each and every step would be availed at https://nitdgp.ac.in.
Other Applied Colleges
Vellore Institute of Technology - [VIT University] | Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Computer Science and Engineering)
The NIRF Ranking for this college is fake and the ranking system of the exam is flawed. Also, the college is just money eater with negligible return on investment
