NIT DURGAPUR CSE REVIEW

I really didn't think much before choosing CS here because it is the stream with the highest package so parents encouraged me to join hence I joined.But after joining I came to realize that the curriculum is pretty interesting as well as intensive. The curriculum covers all the fundamental subjects such as Architecture , OS,DBMS,CN and DSA and labs which prepare us by training us not only the basic theory part but also how they are applied.Not only this some professors even assign us projects during labs and these help us to apply whatever we learned and also enable us learn new things on our own.Although the curriculum is great , but still it would have been better if some of the subjects such as AI would have labs associated with them as in such subjects practical knowlegde is as important as theory.The exams in CS stream are tough. The exams happen twice in a semester, one mid sem and one end sem for each subject. The questions are mostly theoritical so memorising is important.

The internships this year have been a bit dull because of the recession. Including myself approximately 110 students have secured on campus internships till now.Companies such as Microsoft,JP Morgan,Goldman Sachs,Wells Fargo,Accenture,BNY Mellon,Adobe and so on visited our campus. Some of the companies such as Adobe were for female only.

We become eligible for campus placements from 7th semester onwards. But in case of internships we become eligible from 5th semester. The placements have been hampered because of recession but still many companies visited our campus for campus placements for the session 2023-24 such as Microsoft,Wells Fargo, Accenture ,Reliance,TCS and so on. Around 540 students are placed till now. With the highest on campus package being around 50lpa. After getting my degree my plan is to work in my dream company, as such I have no intention of pursuing higher studies.

The tution fees is 76300 for Geneal category students and approximately 13000 for SC and ST category students.The fees generally stays the same and in some cases it increases by 1000 approximate. Although this is very rare. I am from general category so for me the fees is 76300 per semester and for hostel it is 5000 per year and for 20000 per semester for mess food. Their are a few scholarships available: Swami Vivekanda Merit cum Means Scholarship Hakeem Abdul Hameed scholarship And their are other state scholarships as well.

The annual cultural and technical fests are Aarohan and Recstacy. They are both held in around March and April every year. The campus is huge and is about 187 acres and is very beautiful. There scenic beauty is beyond words specially around sunset. I personally did not join any clubs but clubs are a great place for pursuing your interests and building bonds with fellow mates,seniors and juniors.Their are many sport facilities available starting from cricket,football , basketball, taekwondo,chess and many more. The library is also huge with books for every subject present . The infrastructure for the labs are good but for some departments the labs are a bit outdated. Overall it is a wonderful experience.

Rooms of 3 are available , each room consists of 3 beds, 3 tables, 3 chairs and 1 or 2 fans. The food quality is average. Though we are charged 20000 per semester for food , but still the food is pretty average. We are given food three times a day in the mess. Though there is variety of foods mentioned in the menu but still most of the days its just rice/roti + 1 sabji(aloo sabji) . The hostels are pretty affordable , we are charged only 5000 per year. So overall the hostel is cheap but mess menu can be improved.

The eligibility for the CS course was that the cut off was around AIR 10000 for general category in JEE MAINS 2021. All the necessary details will be provided in the JOSAA and the fees and everything are to be processed there only and the necessary details if any are conveyed through mail. It would have been easier if there were any video provided that showed the complete process to start to end .

The faculty to student ratio in Computer Science Department is 1:100 for regular courses and for depth electives it is about 1:70. All the faculties have completed their PHD from reputed colleges such as IITs and NITs and have years of experience in teaching. Most of the faculties are approachable and they can be interacted within the class and they may even ask to come to their offices for further communication. They can be approached not only for issues regarding studies but also in case of some other issues. Most of the professors are willing to help,exceptions are there but if they are politely approached they help us.
