Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The course curriculum across every DU college remains the same and covers almost every important aspect of the subject area. My course, for example, was English Literature, and it has a vast curriculum ranging from Indian Literature to American Literature and Russian to British. The curriculum comprises different genres and styles and as a student of the course, I can very proudly say that I have enjoyed it throughout my three years. My course was full of learning and totally research-driven. About the exam structure, I'd say it's very much like school. While most of the colleges have only semester exams, DRC has this unique way of testing the students on 50% of the syllabus beforehand and these are called the House Exams or Mid Semesters. Now, these tests are real eye-openers and I personally feel that they do ace our preparation for the finals. Hands down, the college has really helped me in getting on to my toes for I have become disciplined, thanks to the 8 am lectures and certainly more passionate and focused towards my goal.

Placement Experience

5

The Placement Cell of Daulat Ram College has become quite efficient in the past two years and they'd help you with a suitable internship according to your profile. The companies that come for placements on board are top-notch startups as well as established companies. You just have to get connected to the Placement cell and believe me, 90% of your work is done!

College Events

5

The college has an annual fest called MANJARI, which is a two-day event and is total fun and frolic! It consists of food, games, events, and concerts by eminent celebrities. Besides MANJARI, the college is a host to individual Department fests for all the departments. Students get to learn, innovate and grow through these fests in their respective areas of study. There are three wings other than the extra-curricular societies; namely, NSO ( National Sports Organization), NSS ( National Service Scheme) and NCC ( National Cadet Corps). These wings also have their respective fests which promise you a good time. In all these fests, students of DU can come and enjoy and participate, whether or not a part of college.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fees structure of my course was INR 14,115 annually. The exam fee for every semester is exclusive of this. It is Rs.100 per subject so you have to pay approximately Rs.510 every semester besides the annual fee. The security deposit is around Rs.2000 for three years.

Fees and Financial Aid

I did not apply for any scholarship or education loan. However, if you have to avail it, you can check it with the University Portal.

Campus Life

4

It's a happening life, especially at the North Campus. There's a lot of hustle-bustle in the campus areas, at the metro stations from morning till night. Even at night, you'll see students strolling the streets. DRC is an all-girls college so I can't really comment on the gender ratio. Yes, diversity is a key aspect of DU. Students from North to South India and East to West India, are present in every college. DU is home to international students as well. Extracurricular tops the list of "perks of studying in DU". There's room for everyone's talent, hidden or exposed! DU is a hub for sportspersons and has special admission criteria for sports. Besides, you can witness new competitions every day.

Alumni/Alumna

The seniors are very very helpful. I mean, they'll like to guide you all the time and even help you with studies. The alumni network is quite strong and one can reach out to the seniors anytime.

Admission

Admission into any DU college, as a matter of fact is based merely upon one's Class XII marks, for almost all the courses, barring a few which have a separate entrance test. Every college releases its various cut off lists for all -reserved and unreserved and our marks must align with the cut off in order to seek admission into that particular college. I had a 92.25%, which just looks good on the outside but for DU, even that is less to get an easy admission to your dream college! Nevertheless, I cleared the fifth cut off list for B.A ( Hons.) English of Daulat Ram College. The admission process is quite easy - you have to get all your documents verified from the administration ( P.S: carry two self attested copies of each document along with your photographs.) Once your documents are verified by the college, you just need to make the fee payment online at the college/DU portal. They'll verify that fee slip and confirm your admission. However, this process takes time because of the huge number of candidates but you need to hold on because in the end, you will get admitted. The First cut off list usually comes mid of June and the last list goes on till end of July.Even after that, if seats are vacant, they release another cut off so you gotta stay very active on the DU portal.

The course curriculum is a bit too theoretical and less practical. The exams in the college takes places every month which are seasonals and are for internal marking and then we have semester exams in every 6 months which accounts for the external marking.

Placements are available in college, the drive is quite extensive, everyone is made aware of the choices and options and counselling is present too. It is from the third year, students are eligible to apply for placements. Companies and organisations take part such as Niti ayog, Times, Geostrata, Prajatantra foundation, etc. Those who desire usually work on their CVs, keep on doi internships and then get a placement. The packages are not that impressive to be honest.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course itself is prestigious and is mostly opted for by people who plan either on preparing for the Civil Services or those who want to pursue academia. The course structure is framed in a manner that you don't just simply study history there, but you ingrain a critical viewpoint of a young historian. The faculty of History Hons. has some of the best Professors in the University, although you will in any course at any college find some teachers below your expectations, you don't have to bear them for more than 1 or 2 semesters. Passing the exams is not very difficult, but yes scoring above average is. If you get a GPA ranging from 6 to 7, you've performed fine. Above that is considered a Very good performance in Hons. courses of Social sciences at Delhi University. there are semester exams every 5- 6 months
