PESU B.Des FAQs
Ques. Does PES University B.Des have a common first year for all specialisations, or do I need to choose my stream at the time of admission?
Ans. The first year of the B.Des programme at PESU is common to all four streams (Industrial Design, Communication Design, Interaction Design, and Fashion Design). You get to explore all streams before choosing your specialisation from the second year onwards. This is a significant advantage as it helps you make an informed decision.
Ques. Is UCEED mandatory for admission to B.Des at PES University, or can I apply without it?
Ans. UCEED is not mandatory. PES University has its own entrance process (online interview) through which you can apply directly. However, if you have a valid UCEED scorecard, you will receive additional points in the online interview process, giving you a competitive advantage. You still need to register and appear for the online interview even if you have a UCEED score.
Ques. What is the difference between the B.Des at PES University and the B.Des at other design schools like NID or NIFT?
Ans. PES University's B.Des is unique in that it is offered within a full university ecosystem, allowing students to collaborate with engineering, management, and other disciplines. The programme is strongly oriented towards product/industrial design, interaction design, and communication design, with a growing fashion design stream. NID and NIFT are standalone design institutes with a longer legacy and stronger industry networks specifically in design. PESU's advantage lies in its Bangalore location, interdisciplinary exposure, and the ability to leverage the university's strong tech and engineering ecosystem.
Ques. What kind of jobs do B.Des graduates from PES University get, and what is the typical salary?
Ans. B.Des graduates from PESU have been placed in graphic design agencies, UI/UX firms in Bangalore and Pune, and fashion houses in Mumbai. Roles include UI/UX Designer, Product Designer, Visual Designer, Communication Designer, and Fashion Designer. Packages for design graduates typically range from INR 4 LPA to INR 15 LPA depending on the specialisation and skillset. Interaction Design and Communication Design graduates tend to get the best packages due to high demand for UI/UX talent.

Ans. Yes, the B.Des degree at PES University is awarded by PES University, which is a UGC-recognised university. As per the official programme page, the B.Des degree is equivalent to the B.Tech/BE degrees offered in the mainstream. The programme is affiliated with PES University itself.
