Remarks

So First about the admission, It happens through the JEE Main Entrance Examination( which is conducted twice a year) and 6-7 rounds of counselling conducted by JOSAA. As per your rank, you get the college with respective departments. NIT Durgapur gives you almost everything that you want from a college from great campus life, decent placements to various cultural and technical events and seminars. The best thing about the college is that it is located in heart of the city so you have access to every essential. The only thing that I felt is faculties are knowledgeable but they can be a little grumpy when it comes to attendance and assignments. I choose this college as I have done my schooling in the city of Durgapur only and I just love the place and its climate. You will find them almost every student of the college definitely agrees with me. The other reason will be the campus life and placement support it has.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

I choose Civil Engineering cause of my interest in this field and I wanted to explore it. Coming to this branch, a batch may have around 60 students and 20 faculties so making the ratio of faculty: student to near about 1:3. The faculties have a strong academic background and have deep knowledge of the subjects. They are really helpful and each has its unique way of teaching so students can grasp the concepts clearly. The only thing is that being a core branch it has lots of classes which can be a little hectic. Exams pretty much happen in two parts - Mid-sem and End-sem and these are combined with a good number of assignments.

Internships Opportunities

4

A number of large companies such as JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, Microsoft, Amazon, DE Shaw, L&T, etc offer internships and even offer PPO after the internships. Their stipend varies and most are offered for the period of two months.

Placement Experience

4

Students in the final year (7th & 8th sem) are eligible for job placement and students in the pre-final year (5th & 6th) are eligible for internships. Most of the large companies like Microsoft, Goldman Sach, JP Morgan Chase Co, Amazon etc. offer PPO after internships and so the placement really gets start with the 5th sem. I have listed few companies above and there are lot more companies such as TCS, Wipro, L&T, Capgemini and a few PSUs too that visit the campus. No. of offers varies from company to company and thag also depends on the company's requirements. The highest package is around 27-30 LPA and average is of 5-6 LPA. Variety of profiles are offered from Analyst, Sales professional to GET. More than 90 percentage of students of CSE and IT branches gets placed while the Civil and Biotechnology students gets lowest placement around 50 percent and taking average to 75 percent of students from a batch gets placed in the respective year.

Fees and Financial Aid

I have joined the college in 2016 and that was the same year NIT and IIT had seen the hike in tuition fees. For the current session, the annual tuition fee is Rs.125000 and you pay around Rs. 70000 per semester including all other charges. With this If you belong to any category or low financial background, there is financial assistance and you get a waiver in the tuition fees. There is a number of scholarships that you can get on the basis of merits like OPJEMS. Coming to placements, It offers a decent placement with large companies visiting the campus like Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, Amazon, TCS, L&T, and a few PSUs too. It has the highest package of 27-30 LPA and an average of 5 -6 LPA. CSE and ECE enjoy the highest percentage of placement while Civil and Biotechnology being the lowest. I got the campus placement at Azure Power as a Graduate Engineering Trainee with a CTC of 5 LPA.

Campus Life

4.5

NIT Durgapur provides you a great campus life and a decent number of clubs to be part of such as CCA, MNTC, Prakriti, Darpan, Interact, etc., and get to explore your interest beyond studies. Being a part of a club you get to organize a lot of events, seminars and of course fests. It organizes a variety of fests from technical to cultural such as Aarohan, Avishkaar, and Nityamini ( Recstacy). With these, It has a central library where you can find lots of books that you may need during the course and preparation of various exams. It provides you best class experience that involves the latest technologies and has a number of sports and games to play and it even has a gym. It organizes no. of sports events and you can also take part in Inter-NITs tournaments.

Hostel Facilities

4

NIT Durgapur has a number of hostels and It is quite good considering all the facilities and its ambiance. Girls and boys have separate hostels. From the first to third year, you have to share a room with your batchmates and in the final year, you get individual rooms. The only bad thing about living in a hostel is the food of the mess. It has the quality and students can change the menu and decide the weekly menu but the taste is not good but still, it's decent enough to eat and it also has other eateries inside the campus which serves food. Registration happens at the time of admission only and It also happens in any academic year if your hostel gets changed. Looking at the expenses, It is pretty much affordable for everyone.

The campus placements happen in final year of the course. There is a well established placement cell to conduct the on-campus placements. Many well renowned companies visit our college namely Microsoft, Google, TI, TSL, PWC, ICICI, ABG. L&T, etc. The highest package was 50LPA and the average was around 9LPA. Over 90% students got placed from across every department and details of the placement is also available in the college official website. I have gotten a job from the on-campus drive to a core company.

The placements of our college are below average. Studies for placement are more or less relevant from second semester. companies like tcs, amazon etc do visit our campus however very few are selected with package above 4-5 LPA. Most of the students seek out for higher studies and that's my plan too.

Placement Experience:

After the 6th semester, the students are eligible for placements. Mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, Capgemini, etc visit every year and pick up 80-100 students per company. Other companies like Amazon, Thoughtworks, Etc also visit the college. The highest package offered by our college is 15LPA by Thoughtworks. Every year around 75-80% of students get placed on campus. I plan to get a good job work for 2-3 years and then apply for Masters. Overall the placement is very nice in this college.
