Remarks

NIT Durgapur has been getting better and better NIRF ranking for years, being in the top 6 NITs in 2021. It's a very old college and has great prestige and culture. The infrastructure is a little old but all of the oldest colleges have this problem. West Bengal has beautiful traditions and humble people. The placememt stats of the college are good, minimum being 86% for mme or bt, which are available in detail on the college's website. The admission process is hassle free and done through JOSAA only, after the JEE Advanced result.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

It is a fact that most people apply for CS then ECE and so on, based on there rank. I had an option between biotech engineering, MSc in chemistry integrated program, and metallurgical engineering in nitdgp. I chose mme as i liked it more. The gender ratio is 20% girls in almost all courses with minor variation. The faculty are mostly researchers who have done there PhD from IITs. There are 3 exams every semester, and taken in a very organized manner, with absolute marking pattern, and are easy to pass with good knowledge in the subject.

Internships Opportunities

Placement Experience

3.5

The placements in NIT Durgapur are good and range between 85% minimum to more that 95%. The detailed statistics and information is available on the intitute website also. Good companies visit during the internship season but almost always are clpsed for non circuital branches. The highest packages are around 40 to 50 lakhs and average 6 to 7. Opportunity for off campus placement is also good.

College Events

5

The infrasture of the college is a little old but it still has one of the best facilities in the country. The social life is good despite the pressure of academics and the campus is almways bustling with students. There are a lot of clubs for every domain except gaming and sports. Although there are sports teams of the college and there is the annual inter NIT competition.

Fees and Financial Aid

The total fees of the course comes to around six point five lakhs for four years of Bachelors in Technology course. There are ample schloarships available on the basis of merit and family income if it is low. There are projects available with professors but they are unpaid and hardly any jobs on campus.

Campus Life

4.5

The infrasture is good a lot of well equipped labs, classrooms and lecture halls. The hostels are also well built and spacious. There are several dedicated halls for sports but the college does not have a swimming pool. 24/7 wifi is available at a moderate speed. The library is also big where you can almpst always find the book you need.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

One hostel room is shared by two or three girls in the first and second years of the course. Every room is equipped with a bed for each occupant, a table and a chair, and a wardrobe. The mess food is of moderate quality and tastes fine.

Admission

Only the JEE mains rank matter for admission. There are no interviews, group discussions, or any other written tests for admission into NIT Durgapur.

I chose this course because I saw the potential in the course for a better and precise future since hospital management is overall management and administration is a part of management. The college provided us 2 internships which really helps us to gain exposure in practical life.

The campus placements happen in final year of the course. There is a well established placement cell to conduct the on-campus placements. Many well renowned companies visit our college namely Microsoft, Google, TI, TSL, PWC, ICICI, ABG. L&T, etc. The highest package was 50LPA and the average was around 9LPA. Over 90% students got placed from across every department and details of the placement is also available in the college official website. I have gotten a job from the on-campus drive to a core company.

The placements of our college are below average. Studies for placement are more or less relevant from second semester. companies like tcs, amazon etc do visit our campus however very few are selected with package above 4-5 LPA. Most of the students seek out for higher studies and that's my plan too.

Other companies like Amazon, Thoughtworks, Etc also visit the college. The highest package offered by our college is 15LPA by Thoughtworks. Every year around 75-80% of students get placed on campus. I plan to get a good job work for 2-3 years and then apply for Masters. Overall the placement is very nice in this college.
