Course Curriculum Overview
Metallurgy is a very interesting branch of engineering. I wish to excel in it. Modern industry is dependent on the knowledge of metallurgy. Nearly every kind of manufacturing today is affected by the behavior of metals and alloys. The faculties here at NIT Durgapur are as good as it can get. The metallurgy department at NIT Durgapur has the best classrooms and labs, the faculty : student ratio is about 1:6. All professor have done their Ph.D from various reputed universities (including Harvard, MIT, Caltech). The exams were designed in such a way that they not only tested theoretical knowledge, but also practical knowledge and applications.
Placement Experience
Right now I am in the sophomore year and I plan to do higher studies abroad. However as per word from my seniors, placements are excellent. The training and placements cells do their very best to reach to the best companies and assist the students in getting placed in these companies.
College Events
NIT Durgapur has 3 main fests:1. Aarohan - The Annual Techno-Management Fest2. Aavishkar - The Tech Fest3. Recstacy - The Annual Cultural FestApart from these, events like TEDx, alumni talk, placement bootcamps and other such events are held frequently. Various festivals are also celebrated by the students.
Fees and Financial Aid
Fee structure can be found on the website. Normally the tuition fee is around 5 lakhs for all the four years combined. Scholarships are available for students coming from reservations, details of which can be found on the website. Also there are several other scholarship programs which vary from state to state. Hostel and mess fees are also very cheap.
Campus Life
The campus is spread across 187 acres of land and houses multiple buildings, laboratories and classrooms. It has state of the art infrastructure with modern amenities. The campus is also physically-handicapped friendly. Among the buildings, it has lush green gardens and huge trees.
Admission
The admission was done on the basis of JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) Mains score. JEE Mains comprises of two papers. The Paper1 is conducted for admission to Undergraduate Engineering Programs (B.E/B. Tech) at NITs, IIITs, other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs). Admission into NIT Durgapur is also done based on JEE Mains Paper 1 score.
