Life in NIT Durgapur

This university was near my hometown with average placement and overall good campus. Even though the placement was not much good but it was as per my ranking in jee mains. I was interested in metallurgy after reading in Quora and got to know this branch is quite good in nit Durgapur and hence considered joining here. My teachers at coaching also advised me to join here instead of taking a drop year which might not help me much. The counselling start near mid June of 2019 and I got my college in the special round conducted namely CSAB by end of July.

The course is quite detailed yet mostly theoretical. Even the interesting topics are not inculcated in a very boring manner. However one does not needs to study much harder for this. But the professors quite take interest in your studies and keep a check on everyone's update. Some faculties are modern, that is teaching while including everyone in the class, and some are old style, just writing and reading. Curriculum is okay and faculties are good too.

I have opted for internship under professors of college like IITs and IIMs ang got selected in IIM Calcutta. It was a digital marketing based internship with no stipend.

Students are eligible for placement in semester 7 and 8. Various companies like microsoft, jpmorgan, Tata, PWC, delloite comes to the college every year. Placement is quite good for some branches like CSE, electronics and mechanical but it is also very low for branches like metallurgy and biotechnology. People from lower branches like metallurgy and Biotechnology look out for off campus placements to cope with lesser companies coming to the college.

Campus Life is quite good. Even though the city does not has much to offer but campus is beautiful and well maintained with ponds and temples. Social life is also quite diverse and different clubs are their. Clubs are quite popular and everybody wants to get into one. Infrastructure is also okay except the first year girls hostel which sometimes looks haunted.

Fees is comparatively lesser than IITs and similar to other nits. However various opportunities are available to get a scholarship like various state governments launch schemes to give scholarship and fees is also reduced for low family income students for example if the income is less than 1 lakh one only need to pay a minimal fees around 10k.

Sports facility if college is good. We have a large playground with different sections alloted to yoga, basketball, volleyball, Cricket and other sports. We also have a good gym and table tennis tables. Library is also good and it was renewed in 2019 also, adding new study rooms. Some labs are quite well maintained while some are very old. Equipments are also available for labs.

Hostel fees is affordable however mess fees is around 12000 every semester. Mess food provides balanced diet with a well changing menu and a weekly feast. The taste of food is normal and sanitation is also okay. The food is not much oily hence it is eatable.

No since I got admission through jee mains only i didn't need to go through any further round like group discussion or personal interview. JEE mains is a country level examination which is responsible for admission in many big colleges.
