NIT Durgapur - Brief tour.

NIT DURGAPUR is the 6th NIT in India with very good placement programs. The college is located in a proper area with a very good environment. I applied for JOSAA (October 2020) counselling but didn't get any seats in any NIT. NIT DURGAPUR has reserved seats for the students of my place i.e Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It provides 47 seats for the students from Andaman although the admission holds too late. I joined the college on 21st December 2020 but the classes were already started a few weeks back. Since we were attending classes online it was a bit difficult for me to catch up with syllabus. The college arranges many cultural activities as it has many clubs that continuously keep competitions, webinars, and many more.

I chose Btech Biotechnology because since class 12th I had an interest in this subject. All the faculty members of this department are really good and supportive. Exams held are not that difficult through online mode for the students. All the study materials are provided by the professors on time.

No I didn't opted for any internship yet.Following are the good internship programs in the college.CERN, Geneva: This is the most prestigious one. As many as 30 students of all the branches are shortlisted based on their CGPA for Personal Interview. From there, 4 students are selected for a summer internship at CERN.DAAD: I won't keep it as a fixed internship opportunity, but, many students go abroad for internships through DAAD.Microsoft: For CSE studentsAmazon: For CSE, IT studentsQualcomm: For CSE, ECE students.JP Morgan ChaseLarsen & Toubro: For Mechanical, Electrical and Civil studentsSun PharmaPWCTata Metallics: For Mechanical, electrical and Metallurgy studentsCESC: For Mechanical and Electrical studentsWipro: For CSE and IT studentsApart from these, there are several institutions with which our college has MoU and you can get a chance for an internship at those.

During the placement drive of 2021 at the NIT Durgapur campus, more than 100 recruiting companies participated. These recruiters made more than 500 offers. 382 students were placed during the placement drive. Students received the highest CTC of INR 44 LPA & the average CTC of INR 8.5 LPA during NIT Durgapur Placements 2021.Recruiters like Toppr, VISA Steel, Reliance Retail, Vedantu, BYJUs, JSW, Lewis Berger, LTI, Genpact, Capgemini etc participated in the placement.

There are many cultural and fests held in the college.There are a total of 18 technical and none technical clubs in the college. Club also include an NGO that provides social help to society.The first cultural fest is AROHAN held by a collaboration of few clubs and various activities, games, musical and dance performances take place. Next is the VERVE held by the club called The Literary Circle. It's the largest cultural fest. Celebrities are invited to the college in these fests. The environment of the college is really fresh and friendly.

The fees structure is a bit high for me but it's fine. As it's a covid period, online education should not ask this fee from the students. I still did get any scholarships since it's online and the college asks for a hostel fee that is a bit disappointing. Many students miss class even exams sometimes, here the students face the problem. The college must take care of every student from every background not only the city people.The college provides continuous internships programs for the students.The Campus Jobs provided for CSE, ECE, ME, CE are very good and provide good packages for the students. But for BT it's not that satisfying. For BT, IT based jobs have only preferred the college.

Sports ComplexNIT has a central play field named The Oval, where all major tournaments and matches are played also accommodates a standard athletic track. There is one more ground called The Lords adjacent to the hostels, all major non sports activities as well as sports activities are organized in regular manner.Available Facilities: Badminton Court, Basketball Court,Cricket Ground,Football Ground,Tennis Court,Volleyball CourtThe library of NIT D is housed in a separate building having three floors with a collection of 1.2 lac volumes which includes text books, reference books & bound volumes of journals, standards etc. It has subscribed to about 180 current print journals and 800+ online journal. Library operations have been automated with the help of an integrated library software package, LIBSYS-4. The book database is accessible through OPAC. It has a good collection of Electronic resources in its Digital Library. There are total 13 hostels in the college NIT Durgapur has 3 girls hostels.HALL 7 for the first years (1 room is shared by 4 or 2 people according to the rooms capacity),HALL 10 for the second and third years(1 room shared by 4 people) and HALL 8 for the final years(each one has their own room).Each hostel has a mess serving breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner.I always find the quality of food decent in the first month of each semester, and then get bored and end up at the canteen or other eating joints.Girls are allowed to enter or leave the hostels only from 6am to 10pm.There,s security round the clock.There is something called "Ideal Dinner" once a month, which includes items like mutton, pulao, ice cream, cold drink, rasgulla, etc.We have a TT table and a carrom board in the common room, besides Badminton, Basketball Cricket and football equipments.We do have a TV in the common room.Small shops in front of the halls to provide you daily use items.Water coolers on every floor, providing safe and cool drinking water.Proper maintainance of room cleanliness by the sweepers and daily bathroom cleaning by the cleaning staff.Pest-control sprays and powders are sprayed once a week in the halls.

No, there is no such rounds in the admission procedure. College admission is purely online. Registration with proper documents and score will complete the admission procedure.
